BLANTON MUSEUM TO COLLABORATE WITH SEVERAL
ORGANIZATIONS TO CELEBRATETURNER TO MONET
Austin, TX—On October 2, 2010, the Blanton
Museum of Art opens the exhibition, Turner to
Monet: Masterpieces from The Walters Art Museum.
This exhibition features works by Eugene
Delacroix, J.A.D. Ingres, Edgar Degas, Edouard
Manet, Claude Monet, J.M.W. Turner and Asher
B. Durand, among others, illustrating the striking
range of styles, techniques, and approaches
practiced during this era of artistic revolution. In
celebration of this exhibition, we have created
several public programs, and have partnered with
the organizations below to bring you special
discounts and incentives.

Special Course Lead by Cheryl Snay, Associate Curator of
European Art
Sundays October 17, 24, and 31, 2 – 4PM
Don’t miss a special mini-course offered by Blanton curator Cheryl Snay. In three classes held over
three consecutive weeks, Dr. Snay will examine the collecting practices of William and Henry
Walters and their contemporaries including Henry Clay Frick, Henry Osbourne and Louisine
Havemeyer, William Corcoran and Isabelle Stuart Gardner, philanthropists whose collections would
later reside in some of the finest art institutions in the United States. Cost: $75 for members / $100

Special Workshop

Art making workshop inspired by Turner to Monet, 19th Century Re-shuffled, and the academic
tradition taught by Austin-based artist collective Okay Mountain.
Turner to Monet Family Days
December 28 & 29, 11AM – 4PM
On Tuesday enter the world of the artist and see how artists of the late nineteenth century lived,
worked, and made art. Create your own art, play art challenge games, and visit interactive gallery
stations. Come back on Wednesday to meet the characters inside of the artworks, make your own art,
and take a theatrical tour. Included with museum admission.
Public Tours
In addition to the programs listed above, the Blanton Museum of Art will host a public tour of
Turner to Monet every Sunday at 3PM for the duration of the exhibition.

ABOUT THE BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART
The Blanton’s collection comprises over 17,000 works of art in a variety of mediums, with particular
depth in Western European art from the fourteenth through twentieth centuries and modern and
contemporary art of the Americas.
The museum enriches and transforms the lives of learners of all ages by providing inspiring and
relevant experiences with original works of art. Through the collecting of art, preserving it in optimal
conditions, and creatively displaying and interpreting these objects, The Blanton serves as an
intellectual and social portal connecting the university and the rest of the world through visual art
and culture.
Located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Congress Avenue in downtown
Austin, the museum is open Tuesday – Friday from 10-5, Saturday from 11-5, and Sunday from 1-5.
Thursday is free admission day and the museum is open until 9 PM on the Third Thursday of each
month. Admission is free to members, all current UT ID-holders, and children under 12, and is $9
for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for college students with ID, and $5 for youth (13-25). For information
