Accessing the CDes Class Folders Requirements In order to use a lab computer and/or to access CDes network storage space, you must have a UMNAD account. This service can be enabled by going to the DirTools web site, logging in, and clicking on Active Directory Account Options and following the instructions. From the CDes labs CDes IT recommends students connect to the class folders from the CDes labs. In the Rapson labs, all you need to do is logon to the computer. You should see an S: drive under My Computer or Windows Explorer. In the McNeal PC labs there is an additional step. Logon to the computer using your x500 and password. Open My Computer, double click the D: drive, and double click “map_s.bat”. A black window will pop up and quickly disappear. You will now have the S: drive under My Computer. In the McNeal Mac labs, you will need to use an account setup by CDes IT. Instructors, please email cdeshelp@umn.edu to request this account. Once you have the account information, click on the Go menu and choose Connect to Server. In the Server Address field type “smb://cdes‐
classes.ad.umn.edu/cdes‐classes$” (without the quotes). When prompted, enter your class’ username and password. The class folder(s) will appear as a network drive in any finder window. From a nonUniversity Windows PC Please note that CDes IT does not support connecting to the class folders from non‐University computers. These instructions are offered as a service to the user.
