Rangers In Bid To Sign Short The 27yearold put pentopaper in time to make his debut in the 11 draw at Hallam at the weekend. (Source: Hull Daily Mail)
Hall Road Rangers could be on the verge of making the
biggest signing in the club's history after opening talks
with exEverton defender Craig Short. The veteran centreback is keen to get back into football following his release by Sheffield United after their relegation from the Premiership. Rangers boss Steve Richards wants to bring his former Scarborough teammate to Dene Park to help achieve promotion to the Premier Division. He told the Hull Daily Mail: "He would be a very good signing if we can get him. "I am in discussions with Craig about possibly playing for us. He will fill in and help out if we get injuries." Short, 39, started his career in 1986 with Pickering Town before moves to Scarborough and Notts County. He left Meadow Lane in 1993 to join Derby County before moving to Everton. He then signed for Blackburn Rovers in 1999, making 114 starts and played in two UEFA Cup games. He left Ewood Park in 2005 to join the Blades and helped to win promotion to the top flight. He joins the Gedling Road side from Unibond Premier outfit, Stamford AFC. John spent some five years with Forest where he made a handful of league appearances before, in 1999, he went to Bristol City as part of the Jim Brennan deal which effectively valued him at £100,000. He made eleven league appearances for the Robins in a four year spell being he was released into nonleague football where he has played for Burton Albion, Hucknall Town, Hinckley United and Ilkeston Town.
Shiners Hunt For New Goalkeeper (Source: Mansfield Chad)
South Normanton Athletic are hunting for a new
goalkeeper after Ross Whalin injured his shoulder in last
midweek's 11 draw with Thackley. The influential shotstopper suffered the injury after colliding with a defender at a corner and is expected to be out of action for at least the next month. Joint boss Mark Harvey told Chad: "Losing Ross is a massive blow to us, he has been brilliant for us this season and is one of the best goalkeepers in the division. "Unless we can get a new keeper I will have to go in goal. He postponed his retirement to help boost their Premiership squad last season, but made just two appearances in the League Cup. "I have played at this level before but not for many years but I should be OK. Rangers chairman Bob Smailes said the club's bid to sign him is a statement of intent by the Dunswellbased side. "I'd sooner rather not be playing though because Ross is such an important player to us."
Smailes told the Mail: "We're more determined than ever this year to achieve promotion and the club are certainly heading in the right direction. Fire Forces Taddy Game Switch "If we can secure Craig's services it will be a big help in achieving our aim of being a UniBond division side in the next three years."

Details about the scale of the damage are not yet known. But, it meant a reversal of fixtures with their 11 draw being played at Pontefract's Skinner Lane. Taddy's home clash with the Colls will now take place on Saturday the 16th of February. Check out the official NCEL website at www.ncel.org.uk NCEL Prem

Check out the official NCEL website at www.ncel.org.uk MATCH REVIEW Meanwhile, Armthorpe Welfare went down 31 at home to Conference National side Farsley Celtic in the West Riding Senior Cup. They had gone ahead through Henry Sebenge before two from Gareth Grant and one from Andy Watson saw the visitors progress. And, Leeds Met Carnegie were 10 winners at home to Team Northumbria in the BUSA Premier League North on Wednesday afternoon with an eighthminute goal from Alex O'Brien separating the sides. (Round 27 – Sat 10th Nov)
Four Division One sides became Cup giantkillers as they
knocked out Premier Division teams in the Second Round
of the NCEL League Cup. Barton Town Old Boys produced the biggest upset as they beat highflyers Pickering Town on penalties at the Euronics Ground. The match was allsquare at 11 after 120 minutes of action. Dinnington Town beat higherranked opposition on their own patch with a 42 victory at Mickleover Sports. Rainworth Miners Welfare also claimed a Premier Division scalp as they won 31 at Long Eaton United. Joe Naylor put the visitors ahead on the quarterhour mark before Scott Downie levelled matters just before halftime. But, Danny Bainbridge and Adam Lillie struck in the second half to provide the upset. Borrowash Victoria, meanwhile, completed the triple whammy by Division One sides, winning 21 at Brodsworth Welfare. Karl Yeoman grabbed a stoppage time winner after Broddy's Gavin Cooper had levelled an opener from Kieran Saxton. The four remaining matches between Premier Division and Division One sides, meanwhile, went with form. Liam Radford's 51stminute strike saw Armthorpe Welfare win by a singlegoal at Leeds Met Carnegie. It was the same scoreline for Parkgate at home to Gedling Town as Hayden Barnett's goal just before the halfhour mark ended the Division One leaders' resistance. Adam Sadler, Tom Reid, Christian Fox all found the net in the secondhalf for Selby Town as they won 31 at home to Pontefract Collieries. IN THE MEDIA
Ashley Vickers had put the Division One side ahead just before the interval. LongTerm Injury Blow To Striker (Source: Scarborough Evening News)
He told the Official NCEL Website: "This has been frustrating as there is now a lot of catching up to be done. And, South Normanton Athletic claimed a 41 victory over visitors Yorkshire Amateur. Scarborough Athletic have been hit by a striking blow with
the news that Joe Lightowler has been ruled out for the
season. "I will be concentrating on Match reports and getting the squad profiles on now that we have some new players in and some have departed. The frontman, who limped out of Boro's game at Rainworth in August, needs a knee operation to rectify an injury, and that will keep him away from the action until next preseason. "I have made a start and I will be continuing the work over the next week or so with new information," he added. Kelvin Mushambi's early brace put them in control although Leon Burton brought the Ammas back into it before the break. Nick Ghislanzoni and Joel Hodgkinson, though, gave the Shiners the win with goals in the second period. In the allPremier Division ties, the biggest victory came at West Street where Winterton Rangers won 40 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare. A firsthalf Mark Whitehouse strike, then an Andy Holt brace and a Danny Clarke penalty gave them a comfortable victory. Three other games ended with 10 wins away from home. Hallam squeezed through at Arnold Town whilst Justin Burdett's 55thminute goal saw Glapwell progress at the expense of hosts Liversedge. And, Darren Leech struck seven minutes from time to seal a place in the Third Round for Glasshoughton Welfare by knocking out Thackley. Lincoln Moorlands Railway went through with a 21 extratime victory at Shirebrook Town whilst Mark Flanagan and Andy Philp helped Eccleshill United progress by the same scoreline at home to Maltby Main. Finally, in the only allDivision One encounter to be played on Saturday, firsthalf goals from Phil Jackman and Kev Larvin gave Bottesford Town a 21 home win over Tadcaster Albion. Boss Brian France has pounced to bring in another signing though, with wideman Richard Medcalf joining from Frickley Athletic. Medcalf, who has also played for Brodsworth this season, was unavailable for the 21 victory at Division One leaders Gedling Town due to suspension. But, he made his debut at the weekend, coming on as a secondhalf substitute in the 51 win at home to Rossington Main.

The Northern Counties East Football League are sad to
announce the death of the exchairman of former NCEL
side Brigg Town, Harry Williams. Known as 'Mr. Brigg Town', he was 86 years old. (Source: Staveley Miners Welfare)
Staveley Miners Welfare have lost their captain for up to
six weeks through injury. His funeral took place at the Woodlands Crematorium in Scunthorpe on Thursday at 11.30am. Danny Robinson limped off during their 21 Division One win at home to Dinnington Town on the 3rd of November. The NCEL were represented by vicechairman Derek Waterfall. The results of a hospital scan last week have shown that the centrehalf has ligament damage which will mean he will be out of action for over a month. In Division One, Staveley Miners Welfare and Scarborough Athletic both won to move up into the top four. Staveley are now third after coming from behind to beat visitors AFC Emley, 21. Marc Townsend put Emley ahead before Lee Gregory and Ryan Damms sealed the points. The Inkersall Road outfit were forced rejig their lineup ahead of last weekend's League clash with AFC Emley but they came out of the game as 21 victors.
Railway Website Back Online All at the League send our deepest condolences to the club and to Harry's family and friends.

Round Proper of the FA Cup. It is the second time that the Station View side, who are now in the UniBond League, have reached that stage. The other occasion was five seasons ago when they were in the NCEL. (Source: Lincoln Moorlands Railway)
And, Hall Road Rangers have progressed in the East Riding Senior Cup after a 71 Second Round win at Hessle Rangers. Lincoln Moorlands Railway are pleased to announce that
their website is upandrunning once again after recent
teething problems. A brace for Paul Palmer and Martin Thacker helped them on their way to the comfortable victory. Computer trouble meant that secretary Graham Peck was unable to update the site for two months. Check out the official NCEL website at www.ncel.org.uk 'Mr. Brigg Town' Passes Away He was well known around our League during the club's 22 year stay in the NCEL from its inception in 1982 until their promotion to the UniBond League three years ago. Staveley Hit By Injury Blow The Staveley management have described the situation on the club's website as a "bitter blow to lose your centre half and captain through an innocuous fair challenge by both players." Just behind Staveley are Scarborough who won 51 at bottom side Rossington, as two own goals plus strikes from Scott Phillips, Mark Griffin and Rob Pinder made it a great afternoon for the visitors. The website address is exactly as it was before at http://www.lincolnmoorlandsfc.nonleague.org/.
They were given a home tie in front of the Sky cameras against League outfit Bristol City where they played well but lost 31. The League wish them well and hope they go one step better this time round when they face Mansfield Town at home at the beginning of December.

Check out the official NCEL website at www.ncel.org.uk MATCH REVIEW A lastminute winner by Kevin Ryan saw Leeds Met Carnegie move up to fourth after a dramatic 32 victory at Hall Road Rangers, although they could argue they deserved the points having been ahead three times in the match. Jason Stokes had put Main ahead on 54 minutes before the Wrens took control of the match, firstly through a Danny Naylor equaliser and then a Lee Wilkinson penalty kick before Jason Nicholson grabbed the third lateon. Worsbrough Bridge Athletic came from behind to claim a 32 win at Pontefract Collieries, as Chris Boreham and Craig Wilkinson brought them back from 21 down to get the three points. And, Yorkshire Amateur were held to a 11 draw at home by Bottesford Town. (Round 26 – Tue 6th Nov to Wed 7th Nov)
The early Premier Division pacesetters went goal crazy in
midweek as the lead changed hands after both nights of
action. Att:101
Att:30
Att:71 A Mike Gibson goal in the opening two minutes for Hall Road Rangers at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic moved them up to fifth in the table. And, Tadcaster Albion remain sixth after a 11 draw at Pontefract Collieries, Guiseppe Downing had put them ahead on 67 minutes before Ashley Vickers levelled matters for the hosts soon after. It was an excellent midweek for NCEL clubs in the second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup. Allbutone of our League sides progressed with the only team to bow out, Nostell Miners Welfare, being beaten at home by fellow NCEL outfit Parkgate. Ian Streather, Aaron Brady, Nathan Hollingworth and Matt Varley put the game beyond doubt by halftime before two own goals from Matthew Hallam compounded Long Eaton's misery. Nostell had been 21 up in the game before a Steve Ward brace and one each from Ryan Johnson and Darren Green saw the visitors win 52. Then, Winterton Rangers went one better on Wednesday night to go to the summit. A Michael Blythen hattrick saw Dinnington Town claim an excellent 30 win at home to Unibond side, Frickley Athletic. A hattrick from Mark Whitehouse helped them to a 70 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Andy Catton and Rob Northen got two goals each. And, Hallam also claimed a scalp with an extratime 32 victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels. The last two topflight games ended with the spoils shared. Att:115 Danny Naylor struck twice in the opening period and the Lee Wilkinson added the third for Welfare just after the interval before James Elliott and James Russell brought the visitors back into the game. Firstly, Glapwell went to the top and made it nine wins out of nine with a 60 thrashing of hosts Long Eaton United. Att:10
Att:46
In fact, the hosts had been 30 up whereupon a late surge by Leeds Met levelled things up. Nathan Scott rescued a point late on for South Normanton Athletic at Thackley after a Matt Berry own goal had put the hosts ahead on 83 minutes. Shirebrook Town and Mickleover Sports played out a goalless draw at Langwith Road. Gedling Town returned to the top of Division One following a 21 win at Borrowash Victoria. The game was level at 11 after ninety minutes before James Tevendale added his second and Ryan O'Carroll got the third for Hallam. Goals from Sean Gorman, Gavin Cooper and Ryan Malee saw Brodsworth Welfare claim a 31 win at home to Kinsley Boys whilst Paul Staniforth and Scott Riley struck early in a 20 victory for Maltby Main over visitors Frecheville. And, AFC Emley were 30 winners at South Kirkby Colliery thanks to strikes from Nick Jagger, Matt Neesam and Steven Kenworthy.

Winterton Rangers are in the last four of the NCEL
Presidents Cup after a comfortable victory at home to
South Normanton Athletic. A Rob Northen brace plus one each for Andy Catton and Matthew Plant gave them a 40 scoreline to progress to face Liversedge at home in the SemiFinals on the 12th of December. It was one of five Cup matches that took place in midweek with other four taking place in County FA competitions. Eccleshill United were the only ones to have joy as they came through their allNCEL clash in the West Riding County Cup First Round at Glasshoughton Welfare. Luke Ruff opened the scoring early on before Andy Howland grabbed a second on the hour and Ryan Wood made it a 30 victory in injury time. In the other West Riding ties, Selby Town went down to a single goal at Silsden, Andy Hart's own goal in the thirteenth minute proving very unlucky for the Robins. And, Ben Roffe grabbed a consolation for Yorkshire Amateur as they lost 41 at Ossett Albion. Worsbrough Bridge were beaten 21 at home to Kinsley Boys in the First Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup. But, there was a much needed boost for Premier Division basement side Brodsworth Welfare as they won 60 at Frickley Athletic in a friendly. (Round 25 – Sat 3rd Nov)
Sixofthebest from Pickering Town saw them move to the
top of the Premier Division after a convincing victory at
home to Mickleover Sports. It was the Pikes ninth consecutive victory in all competitions, seven in the League, and they were well on their way to the win by the interval as Danny Gildea and Steve Baxter had put them 20 by halftime. Ricky Greening grabbed a brace before Chris Batcher and Liam Salt completed the 60 rout in the final twenty minutes. They replace Nostell Miners Welfare at the helm who were held to a 33 draw by visitors Glasshoughton Welfare. It means they have not won in their last five league matches but it could have been a lot worse after Glasshoughton took a 20 lead through Richard Britten and Chris Coupe. Nostell turned the game around, however, with two from Ben Gilbert and a third from Matthew Wilkinson on 67 minutes. But, Glasshoughton got a point as Nigel Croud concluded the scoring four minutes later. Winterton Rangers dropped to fourth after losing 20 at Long Eaton United. Alex Steadman and Scott Downie were on target to take the home side up to thirteenth in the table. Liversedge overtook Rangers into third with a 31 win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway at the Clayborn Ground. Glapwell's hundred percent record remained intact to see the Hall Corner side move up to fifth, Aaron Brady's eighthminute strike enough to pick up all three points at Maltby Main. Christian Fox, Brenton Leister and Adam Lee all found the net for Selby Town as they beat South Normanton Athletic 31 at the Flaxley Road Ground to climb into seventh. Kelvin Mushambi got the consolation for the Shiners who drop into seventeenth and are two points ahead of the basement side Brodsworth Welfare who lost 30 at home to Eccleshill United. Shirebrook Town and Thackley both picked up maximum points from their home games to relieve their pressure towards the bottom of the table. Matt Thorpe scored with ten minutes remaining as Shirebrook won 10 against Parkgate whilst Matthew Mathers and Dave Woofenden guided Thackley to a 20 victory over Armthorpe Welfare. And, honours were even at Sandygate where Hallam were held to a 11 draw by Arnold Town, the first draw at home for Hallam in nineteen months. Things were also very dramatic in Division One as Gedling Town were knocked off top spot following their first league defeat of the season. It was inflicted on them by Scarborough Athletic in front of the day's biggest crowd of 180 at the Riverside Ground. Scott Phillips got both the Seadogs goals in a 21 win with Matt Millns grabbing an injurytime consolation for Lee Wilson's side. Gedling were replaced at the helm by Teversal who picked up a straightforward 30 home win over Borrowash Victoria, Jack Townroe after sixteen minutes before Andy Woodcock and Sam Holmes made sure in the last quarterofanhour.
