Dynamics analysis of LM/2E perigee kick motor

Solid rocket motor EPKM(Earth Perigee Kick Motor), with 1.7m diameter and 6001kg weight , works with
“LM-2E” liquid rocket motor used as upstage motor at the perigee point.
EPKM is connected to satellite adapter and
LM-2E adapter by two 100 bolt flanges respectively. EPKM modal analysis with finite element program is presented
here.
Craig-Bampton fixed interface theory is used in the calculation, so the Ritz base includes normal modes and
constraint modes.
As component parameters, the results is provided for system dynamic analysis. In the modal
analysis, orthotropic property of EPKM composite case is fully considered.
Rigid elements are adopted for EPKM’s
connections with satellite adapter and rocket adapter, so their modal synthesis is realized. 12 constraint modes and 35
normal modes was selected, in that frequency of normal modes is between 37 to 81Hz.
The general mass matrix and
general stiffness matrix are provided for system dynamic couple analysis. The theoretical model is proven by static and
modal tests. Two successful “LM-2E/EPKM flights have certificated good dynamic correspondence among the
components.
