•You are expected to pay first semester fees only. However,
if you choose to pay for one academic year, you can do so.
•It is recommended that you pay your tuition fees after you apply

entitled to a refund of your fees, less $200 in the case that your
Study Permit/Visa application is rejected.*

Alternative
Program
Placement
Your letter of acceptance states
the last day you will be allowed to
register. If you cannot be in your
classes by this date, you may start
classes on the next available starting
date for your program. Only students
who paid their first semester fees
can qualify for deferral.
For several reasons, you may have
received a Letter of Acceptance to
a program that you did not list on
your application:
• If
you must delay your starting date, please submit the
attached Request to Defer Admission Form (Form D) NO
LATER than Day 10 of the semester into which you have
been admitted. If the form is not received by the tenth day
of classes, you will not qualify for a deferral or refund. You can
only request a deferral to a start date that is within one year
from your original start date.
• Additional
requests for deferrals must be accompanied by
a new application to the College. You will be expected to pay
your application fee again.
• Some
programs only have one starting date per year. For
example, the English Language Institute (ELI) offers six starting
dates per year. Please contact us to inquire about alternative
starting dates for your program.
did not submit a valid or sufficient score on your
IELTS/TOEFL/CAEL test for academic study at Seneca. You
must attend a preparatory program for the English proficiency
demands of the program for which you have applied. If this
assessment reveals that you do not need this additional study,
you will then be admitted to your program, if the program
is available.
• You
to Diploma: If you applied to a degree program,
you may be offered admission to a corresponding diploma
program. Degree programs may require higher academic
scores than those on your academic record and higher levels
of English proficiency than indicated on your IELTS/TOEFL/
CAEL score report. Students who are successful in their
diploma studies with grades of B or higher may request a
transfer to the degree program after two years of study.
• Degree
Programs: Seneca offers several programs
that prepare students for admission consideration in some
diploma programs. This is an opportunity to study and
experience college life in a less stressful academic environment while preparing for another program. Examples of
such programs include the standard stream of the General
Arts certificate as well as the pretechnology stream.

INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS GUIDE 19
FEE POLICY FOR INTERNATIONAL
STUDENTS ON STUDY PERMIT
2012/2013 Academic Year
Full-Time Post-Secondary Programs
TUITION FEES
Tuition fees for international students are established by the Seneca
College Board of Governors and administered by the Registrar’s Office.
The schedule of fees described in this section applies to persons
attending college programs on a study permit.
1.Tuition fees for full-time post-secondary programs are outlined in the
Academic Year 2012–2013 Schedule of Mandatory Fees. It is important to note that although most programs run for two semesters per
academic year, there are some programs that run three semesters
per academic year.
A full-time international student is defined as one who is registered
in 80% (i.e. 4 out of 5 subjects) or more of the regularly assigned
semester subjects of a day program and/or 80% or more of the
regularly assigned student contact hours of a day program.
2.Course Load: Standard tuition fees are charged for standard
programs. Should a student take more than the normal number of
subjects (as defined in the calendar) in a particular semester for any
reason, the student will be charged an additional fee assessed at
$1,173.00 for each extra subject, regardless of the division in which
the subject is offered.
This includes situations where student programs have been altered
to provide for remedial or developmental studies, or where a student is granted approval by the Chair of his/her School to enrol in an
extra subject.
3.Students attending college on a study permit must carry the normal
course load each semester. Any deviation from this rule must be approved by the Registrar’s Office. If approved, and course load drops
below 80% within the first ten days of classes, fees will be prorated
based on the number of subjects in the semester.
4.Students registering in Faculty of Continuing Education (i.e. FCE or
Evening) subjects will pay $1,173.00 for each subject.
OTHER FEES
Tuition-related incidental fees are deemed to be part of the standard
tuition fee. However, the following fees, in addition to the standard
fee, are borne by the student.
Academic Appeals
Students who launch a formal academic appeal are required to pay
a non-refundable $25.00 fee for each level of appeal. The fee covers
all matters under appeal, and is payable at the Cash (or Registration)
Office.
Alumni Fee
Effective September 1, 2012, an alumni fee is charged at the rate
of $7.25 per semester to new students entering the College. The
maximum any one student is expected to pay is $29. Continuing
students who started prior to Fall 2012 are charged $7.00 per
semester for the remaining semesters of their studies to a maximum
of $28.00. This fee is non-refundable.
20 INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS GUIDE
Co-operative Education Administrative Fee
All students enrolled in a co-operative education program will be
charged an additional, non-refundable, administrative fee. Collection
of the fees will commence with the semester in which the first Co-op
Professional Practice subject is scheduled, at the rate of $495.00 per
work term.
Graduation Fee
Students pay a $50.00 graduation fee in the first semester (except ELI
and Nursing students). This fee is non-refundable.
Health and Wellness Fee
Effective September 1, 2012, a Health and Wellness Fee is charged at
the rate of $1.25 per semester. This fee will fund necessary programmatic resources to implement broad-based health education initiatives
across the College.
Health Insurance Fee
This insurance is administered by the International Student Centre to
provide accident and illness coverage for international students in a
group plan format. Health insurance coverage is mandatory for international students in Canada who are not eligible for health coverage
under the provincial health insurance plan. A $240.00 health insurance fee is charged each semester. This fee is non-refundable. Dental
coverage is not provided.
For more information, contact the International Student Centre or visit
https://studyatseneca.ca/jsp/StudentServices.jsp.
Late Fees
Should a student be permitted to pay fees after the dates specified by
the college (see Fee Payment Dates), a $65.00 late payment fee will
be assessed for each infraction. Students who do not register on the
dates assigned by the college will pay a $100.00 late registration fee
for each infraction.
Late Testing Fee
Skills Assessment/College Placement testing administered to place
students who have already been admitted to a college program in the
appropriate Math and/or English level is normally provided at no cost
to the student. However, there is a $30 late testing fee for those who
do not write the test(s) prior to the published deadline date. That date
is included with Admissions information each semester.

FEE PAYMENT DATES
Full fees (tuition, student council, student activity, student building,

Critical Dates
Fall
Winter
Summer
June 15, 2012
Oct. 10, 2012
Mar. 8, 2013
Fees must be paid according to the schedule in order to reserve your
place in class and to avoid payment of late fees. Late fees will be
levied if payment is accepted by the College after the
due dates.
New students who do not pay fees will have their place in class cancelled automatically and without further notice. Students whose fees
are received by the College after the specified date will be placed on a
Waiting List, pending availability of space in the program.
Returning students who do not pay full fees by the date specified will
be charged the applicable late fees. Timetables will not be released to
students who have not paid or made arrangements to pay fees.
Seneca College transcripts and certificates/diplomas will be withheld
for all students until outstanding fees/fines have been paid.
NOTICE OF CHANGE OF FEES
All fees noted in this Fee Policy are effective for the academic year
beginning September 1st, 2012, and are subject to change. The College will make every effort to provide students with as much advance
notice as possible when College fees change.
