Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management / Human Resource Development HRM/HRD PgDip These two courses have been approved by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) to provide the knowledge and skills required for Chartered Membership of CIPD and to meet the Advanced level standards on the HR Professional map. From September 2010 they replace the CIPD Professional Development Scheme previously taught in the Business School. Introduction The programme develops individuals as knowledgeable Human Resource (HR) professionals who continually learn from experiences and can add value in employing organisations, now and in the future. It provides knowledge and skills requirements necessary to apply for Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, once you have sufficient organisational experience. There is opportunity to complete a generalist HRM route, or for those who wish to specialise in HRD you can select modules that focus on learning development for staff, managers and leaders. These include many different assessments. The mix of assessment methods allows students to develop as leaders and managers. Attendance The course runs on a part-time basis with different modes of attendance, including: • Full day • Half day and evening • 2 evenings per week Additionally there are residentials and block study days. You can change between modes on a temporary basis if you need to for work on personal reasons. The normal attendance days for year are: Year 1 – Mondays and additional Tuesday evenings (for evenings only) Year 2 – Tuesdays and additional Wednesday evenings (for evenings only) Facilities We can guarantee to provide you with a modern and professional place in which to study and learn. Our purpose-built new Business School only opened in 2010 following an investment of £17m. It’s a state-of-the art facility and provides you with high quality environment in which to learn and develop. The building features modern, spacious classrooms with excellent IT facilities and there are a number of computer labs for general student access. Another key feature is the social space available, where you can gather to study or just relax. ‘The Street’, at first floor level, provides a cafe selling excellent coffee and food, soft seating, tables, WiFi internet access and a terrace overlooking the courtyard, with vending facilities if you’re in a hurry or working late. We’re located just across the canal from the main campus; the library and student centre are a few minutes away. The University of Huddersfield campus is located in the town centre allowing you easy access from public transport (the bus and rail stations are no more than 10-15 minutes walk away) and the major road and motorway networks across West Yorkshire. Entry requirements Applicants should have a first degree or equivalent qualification and experience of working in Human Resource Management or Development or will have completed Certificate in Personnel, HR or Training Practice and have relevant experience. Career progression Full membership of the institute, i.e. MCIPD, may be applied for upon successful completion of the course, after the appropriate amount of relevant experience. This upgrading and subsequent upgrading to Chartered Fellow of CIPD depends upon the production of satisfactory evidence of continuing professional development.
