THE THINKING ARTIST
Obsessed with an ambition to pursue study of art, literature, poetry and philosophy, Shahid Rassam blossomed into an artist whose work reflects his thoughts and emotions. His restless energy was fueled by his emotional anger at the world around him and tempered by his aesthetic sensibility. He has been able to motivate his creativity through his self-knowledge and self- experience. His joy in music, dance and finer pleasure in life did not shut his eyes from the sufferings and exploitation he saw all around him, notably of women. His acclaimed early series of woman bonded to being sex workers has remained with him. He deliberately chose sunflowers to symbolize these women’s faces who remain faceless and nameless in this cruel and callous material world. Now an angelic face has emerged from the sunflower to reinforce the dignity of these women. His latest work featuring high unusual, finely textured, brilliantly colored paintings is now exhibited at Bagash Art
Gallery in Dubai from March 19 th 2007.
Shahid with his gifted art, mysterious and mystique at the same time, full of
“one thousand one” colours, leaves you with awe and admiration of a unique and everlasting experience
