This qualification builds banking acumen across a range of critical competencies and gives practical
guidance on how to apply your training in the workplace.
After completing the qualification, you will have insight into the bank as a business in a broader economic
and industry context. You will also have gained insight into the core set of banking and financial service
disciplines and will be able to apply these principles at work with confidence.

Combining banking theory with real-world solutions, Core Banking and Financial Services equips you with
the crucial knowledge of financial services and the core competencies you’ll need for a successful career
in the banking industry.
NOTE: Any module can be completed on its own as a standalone short course. In some instances, a module
may be accredited as a short course.

 Junior specialists who wish to develop role-specific competencies.
This qualification is best suited to learners looking to obtain a general banking qualification. For a sales and
service oriented approach, Sales and Service Excellence is the appropriate path.
Course Outline
Compulsory Core Modules (Foundational Banking Competencies)
 Personal and Business Finance
Develops financial insight, financial planning and calculation skills. This includes basic accounting,
financial concepts and basic financial analysis.
 Governance, Risk and Compliance
Introduces this core set of banking and financial services disciplines, providing understanding and the
ability to apply concepts and principles of risk and risk management, governance and compliance
regulation.
 Financial Products: Sales and Services
Creates an understanding of financial product sales and sales management in accordance with best
practice and regulatory requirements.
 Financial Services: Sector Dynamics and Strategy
Provides insight into the bank as a business in a broader economic and industry context.

In addition to the core modules, learners may select up to two role-supporting modules.

Though they are not credit-bearing, these modules are integral to role-development and professional
growth within the dynamic industry of banking. Please note that availability is based on demand. For more

Fees and Enrolment
Fees and enrolment are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and take into account learnership scope, level
and learner numbers.



Please note that any additional modules undertaken over and above the core modules will incur
additional costs.
Enrolment and launch date of the learnership are flexible, and can be tailored to meet the needs of
the client.
Please allow an extra day out of the office for the launch date, as this is not included in our estimate
of the days out of the office required for completion of the learnership.

• For NQF level 5 matric prerequisites, both English (pass) and maths (pass) are required.
