Introducing the
Cardinal's Network
Exciting and dramatic changes to digital and
electronic communications are happening almost
daily in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The most recent
initiative, the Cardinal’s Network, has been
introduced on the archdiocesan web site.
Beginning in April, Cardinal George will
occasionally share his thoughts, reflections and
prayers electronically with all who subscribe by
providing an email address.
To join Cardinal George’s new communications
initiative, visit www.archchicago.org and click on
Cardinal’s Network in the box on the home page.
Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross will be celebrated
every Friday evening during Lent at
7:00 p.m. in the church.
Operation Rice Bowl
Catholic Relief Services invites you to make your
Lenten journey in solidarity with your global family. Operation Rice Bowl is a journey of prayer,
fasting, learning and giving. Operation Rice Bowl
made a huge difference to people all around the
world. Your participation in Operation Rice Bowl
during this Lenten season will challenge you to expand your own horizons. “Blessed are they who
hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be
satisfied.” CRS/ORB boxes can be found in the vestibule.

2009 Parish Directories
Our 2009 Parish Directories are available at
all church entrances or in the parish office.
You can also view the Parish Directory on
our parish website.
A great deal of energy goes into producing
the directory each year and for this our parish
is indebted to Bernadette Carlson, Marge
Clingan and Lois Greening for their ongoing dedication to the
success of the directory. Our parish would also like to thank Lake
County Press for their generous donation in covering many of
the printing costs and to Terry Murnane for his donation of the
paper used.
And, of course, we must thank all of the generous patrons and
advertisers that support the directory year after year. Please be
sure to patronize these vendors and tell thank them for their support of our parish.
World Day of Prayer
World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of
women of many faith traditions who come together to observe a
common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March. Our
parishioners are invited to join the members of St. James the Less,
Ascension Lutheran, Northfield Community and Willow Creek
for this inspirational day of prayer. Each year a different country
serves as the writer of the WDP worship service. For 2009, the
WDP Committee of Papua New Guinea developed the theme, In
Christ, There Are Many Members, yet One Body. Please plan to
join us on Friday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James the Less
Episcopal Church, 550 Sunset Ridge Road in Northfield, for a
morning of song, praise & thanksgiving. For more information
call Cathy Stegich at (847) 501-3347.

Sharing the Gospel
In today's Gospel, Jesus
spent forty days in the desert. Jesus stayed close to God, and he followed God's directions every day of his life.
When Satan came to test Jesus he was ready.
Jesus passed every test beautifully. He said
"No" to temptation. When you write spelling
words over and over, it is easier to remember
them. If you are learning a new language, it
helps to make flash cards to practice with.
Once you memorize all your words, taking
the test is pretty easy. The more you read the
Bible and do what God asks in his word, the
easier it will be for you to pass Satan's tests,
too.

(Mark 1:12-15) And the Spirit immediately drove
him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was
with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on
him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to
Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and
saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of
God has come near; repent, and believe in the
good news."

"Angelicus" - Easter Choir for Children
“This day was made by the Lord, let us be glad!” These words remind us
that Easter is not far away, and for the children of the parish that means an
opportunity to participate in the Angelicus Easter Choir at St. Philip.
Rehearsals will be on Sundays from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. on March 1, 8, 15,
22, 29 and April 5. The choir will sing at the 11:45 a.m. Mass on Easter
Sunday, April 12 (rehearsal before Mass). Sign-up/registration forms are
available on the table in the vestibule or from the Music Director. Please
join us as we once again prepare praises to God celebrating Christ’s
resurrection!
Oremus – The Church at Prayer
Each week during Lent we all have the opportunity to center ourselves
around the daily office of the Church, in this case Evening Prayer, which
begins at 6:45 p.m. each Monday in March. Below is an excerpt which
may help us prepare to stop momentarily the busy character of our daily
lives, and look to God in this, our Lenten devotion.
From the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours:
Structure of the Celebration
33. The structure of the liturgy of the hours follows laws of its own and
incorporates in its own way elements found in other Christian celebrations.
Thus it is so constructed that, after a hymn, there is always psalmody, then
a long or short reading of sacred Scripture, and finally prayer of petition.…
In this way the Apostle’s exhortation is obeyed: “Let the word of Christ
dwell in you in all its fullness, as you teach and counsel each other in all
wisdom by psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing thankfully to
God in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16; see Ephesians 5:19-20).

Yours in Christ,
