Toyota Australia unveils the new-look Camry
On Tuesday 28 April, 2015, Toyota Australia unveiled the last model to be built at its Altona manufacturing plants;
the new-look Camry.
Along with the facelift Aurion, the new-look Camry and Camry Hybrid will be in production until the company stops
manufacturing at the end of 2017.

Albury Wodonga AMFP Industry Day on May 29
The Australian Manufacturing and Farming Program was founded in 2011 by Senator John Madigan, Senator Nick
Xenophon and Bob Katter MP to put the focus back on the benefits manufacturing and farming bring to
communities and the country.
Working with the office of the independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan, the Albury Wodonga industry day on
May 29 – themed Position Perfect – will be the biggest and best.

The program is completely non-political and bipartisan. The focus is on manufacturers, farmers and food
processors, showcasing their work and providing the opportunity for them to network with other community leaders,
members of the public, schools and tertiary education institutions, and politicians of all persuasions.
The day consists of both an exhibition/trade show and several panel sessions. There is no charge to be involved.
Australian auto aftermarket shifts into top gear
The 2015 Auto Aftermarket Expo was held in Melbourne from 16 to 18 April showcasing automotive aftermarket
suppliers, manufacturers and exporters.
Hosted biennially by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), the Expo hosted 420 exhibitors
from 21 countries across more than five acres of floor space. In addition, 30 other organisations staged their own
events. The trade only event attracted 10,266 technicians and workshop owners and managers and increase of
34% on the 2013 Expo held in Sydney.

Keynotes on the investment seminar from the Thailand Government Board of
Investment (BOI)
The Australian automotive market place is still of particular interest as Thailand prepares for a pending economic
boost with launch of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) multi-lateral trading bloc in December 2015.
The Thailand Board of Investment Deputy Secretary General Bol Khun Duangjai Asawachintachit spoke of ‘How
the Thai Government can assist Australian companies to establish a presence in Thailand together with
financial incentives and facilitation services, as well as trade conditions under the new ASEAN cooperation
agreement’ at the Auto Aftermarket Expo.

Green automotive Trade Mission to Thailand
Austrade Thailand will organise a trade mission focused on green automotive technology including electric vehicles
and Eco Car II during 9 – 11 June 2015.
In October 2013, the Thai government endorsed the Eco Car Phase II project to attract car manufacturers to invest
in new environmentally friendly car programs, by providing privileges such as lower excise tax on the vehicles and
a 6-year corporate income tax.
These programs offer opportunities for Australian companies that have related technologies to match the
requirements of local components and car manufacturers.

FAPM submission to Federal Government Inquiry
On 25 November 2014, the Senate referred an inquiry into the future of Australia’s automotive industry to the
Senate Economics References Committee for inquiry and report.
The FAPM has completed its submission which can be found on the on Inquiry website accessible here.
This is a year-long extensive inquiry into all aspects of the automotive industry which is scheduled to report to the
Senate by 1 November 2015.

We encourage all member companies to also make a submission as this inquiry is broad reaching and covers all
aspects of our industry.
Motor Vehicle Standards Act Review
On 16 April 2015, the Federal Government announced more detail on its review of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act
1989 (Act).
The Act regulates vehicle standards for new motor vehicles and the supply of used imported vehicles. The terms of
reference for the review can be accessed here.
The review of the Act is now open to public consultation, until the end of May 2015. The consultation process will
lead to the publication of a Regulatory Impact Statement and influence the Government’s final deciion on any
reform to the Act. Comments can be made by email to MVSreview@infrastructure.gov.au.
LAND 400 registerations for supply
LAND Combat Vehicle System (LCVS) is one of Defence’s most significant capability programs both in terms of
acquisition cost and its impact on the Army’s war fighting capability.
First Pass approval for Phase 2 of the program was announced on 19 Feb by the Ministers for Defence and
Industry. Information on the project is available here.
The DMO’s Defence Industry Division is seeking registrations from any company which may have the potential to
supply each facet of the LAND 400 program.
Introduction to UKTI Australia – meet the buyer
UKTI would like to invite Australian supply chain companies to the SMMT’s Meet the Buyer event that is being held
in the UK on 12 May 2015.
SMMT with UKTI’s Automotive Investment Organisation (AIO) will jointly host the event in 2015 to support the
sourcing activities of both UK and overseas purchasing organisations, and encourage inwards investment in
processes not currently supported in the UK.
The directors of purchasing for all of the OEMs have committed to attend with their teams.
