Optical Line Termination Unit OLTU
The Optical Line Termination Unit OLTU combines various electrical interfaces with their protocols
together to a single optical-fiber output with Gigabit Ethernet protocol.
Description:
The Optical Line Termination Unit combines various
electrical interfaces with their protocols together to a
single optical-fiber output with Gigabit Ethernet
protocol. Therefore the OLTU unit is the ideal
connection unit at both end of a optical-fiber
transmission in a surrounding where cupper lines are
replaced more and more with optical-fiber
connections.
Brugg Cables deliver special optical-fiber cables for
the harsh military surroundings for laying in the field,
which are a very good completion building a
communication system for field use. Thereby the
OLTU is providing optical point-to-point connections
with the following services available on the electrical
interface side:

LAN interfaces Ethernet 100 Base T
•
Audio & Video streaming
•
Analogue telephone services (PABX)
•
VOIP telephone connections
•
Standard interfaces E1 (G.703, G.704) for voice
and data
•
EUROCOM interface
•
Permanent voice channel (EOW)
The type and number of interfaces can vary according
to customer’s requirement within certain limitations.
This means the unit itself is tailored, engineered and
produced according to the customer’s needs.
Therefore the OLTU guarantees a flexible, economical
and customer–oriented solutions. The unit is delivered
in a ruggedized construction with a carrying case
specified according to Mil STD 810 E for the use in the
field.

Future Options and Functionalities
The existing chosen platform concept allows new options
and functions to be easily and rapidly be integrated into the
system, for example:
•
Construction of self contained, line–powered remote
systems with a power consumption of up to 2 kVA via
the special hybrid cable BRUpowermil at a distance of
2 km. Longer distance is possible with reduced power
consumption.
•
The OLTU combined with the remote power supply
equipment
builds
a
self-contained,
remotely
deployable system, which can be used for the
surveillance of equipment installations or secure areas
by video installations.

The OLTU concept, which is based on the hardware
and software platform Open Access! node, offers the
possibility to use a broad variety of hardware and
software components. The system can easy be
configured and offers many diagnostic and control
functions, for system tests and maintenance purpose.
