Thank You, Volunteers!
Dear Community,
At the Upper Saddle River Library we are grateful for the abundance
of support that we receive from the members of the community who
volunteer their time and talents to the library.
The Upper Saddle River Library Board of Trustees who guide and
support the library: Tom Bono, Dennis Schubert, Miriam Bakal, Paul
Beck, Dr. Monica Browne, Mayor Joanne Minichetti, Steve DiMartino,
Christina Cucci and our newest appointee Robin Friedman. We would
also like to thank outgoing trustee Marie Hornstein for 15 years of dedication and service to the library as a member of the Board.
Our appreciation also extends to the wonderful Friends group, led by
Nona Maher, that continues to support the library community in many
meaningful ways. During the past year, the Friends have sponsored the
Annual USR Art Exhibit, cosponsored the Summer Concert series and
the Harvest Festival, authorized unlimited access to Tutor.com, and provided materials for our ongoing eReader program. In addition, our wonderful Upper Saddle River Directory, published by the Friends, continues
to be an important community resource. The ESL program provides
instruction to residents, totaling 620 volunteer hours last year.
Thank you to all of the community organizations who support the
library. SRVJCO, SRV Junior Woman’s Club, USR Woman’s Club,
Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation, SRV Lions Club and the
Dept. of Public Works for helping us achieve another wonderful year.
I am honored to serve a community that so greatly values and supports
its library.
~ Warmest Regards, Kathleen
Your Smartphone just got Smarter
Nearly everyone has a smartphone and we use them for all kinds of things:
music, videos, books and phone calls. But soon your smart phone will
be able to do one more–check out materials from the USR Library! New
scanners will let you check out materials without having to retrieve your
physical library card. Just scan your library card to your app and you are
good to go. Of course, you should have proper ID with you that matches
your card. Look for this new feature at the circ. desk beginning April 1st.

The Importance of
Brain Health
TUESDAY · March 18th · 7–8:30 pm
Are you a caregiver to someone suffering from
Alzheimer’s or another dementia-related illness? Are
you someone worried about your own memory, your
critical thinking? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, join us with Patricia O’Hora R.N., owner/director
of The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Brain Health Center in
Waldwick, NJ. discusses brain health.
Patricia will discuss the holistic approach to cognitive
stimulation of the brain that she uses to help her clients
stay at their current level of function longer, thus slowing the progression of their illness.
Modern American artists were
searching for a national style of
art. They were intent on shunning
the influence of European artists
and instruction and to maintain
their own identity. This lecture
examines the growth of American
Art from the 1930’s to the present
with the many movements that occurred. Some of the
artists covered will be Charles DeMuth, Grant Wood,
Georgia O’Keefe, Andrew Wyeth, Jackson Pollock,
Andy Warhol, Jim Dine and more.
