As I look outside and often see grey clouds, some thoughts about music could lighten your mood. Great music has a way of soothing the soul, uplifting our spirits and imparting a special joy. This experience is magnified when we share the music with like-minded people in beautiful surroundings. I do hope you are all looking forward to this year’s festival as much as the Goldners. As always, we have had an exceedingly busy schedule, and just completed our most successful national tour for Musica Viva! The quartet is in fine form in its 20th anniversary year and as usual, we will perform some masterworks for you at Music in the Hunter 2015. They will include the incomparable late quartet Op 132 by Beethoven - our all-time favourite by the great master. Brilliant pianist, composer, and longtime colleague, Ian Munro, will make a welcome return to our festival. Ian is a remarkable performer who brings special insights through his deep understanding of musical structure, coupled with an intimate Ian Munro Ken Healey knowledge of the compositional process. He will be joining us in various works, including Beethoven’s Ghost trio and Elgar’s superb piano quintet. Australia’s best-loved mezzo-soprano, Fiona Campbell, will make her debut at Music in the Hunter. Many of us have had the pleasure of working with her in a variety of musical styles, but the chamber repertoire is one of her greatest loves. In addition to her wonderful voice, she has a stage presence par excellence and amazing versatility. We will hear her sing Schubert Lieder, songs by Brahms, Dowland, Purcell and others. Pre-concert speaker Ken Healey returns to enlighten us about the music in his inimitable fashion. Please join us to celebrate the 25th anniversary year. If you are inviting new subscribers, please ensure they register as soon as possible. We can promise a weekend of fine music and warm companionship with our signature food and wine to complete the experience.
