CLASS TITLE: AUDIO-VISUAL/ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director-Maintenance, Operations and construction, coordinate and
schedule the operations of audio-visual support program; provide technical assistance regarding the
application of audio-visual equipment and programs for academic and extra-curricular activities; provide
and produce commercial and internal radio and television program materials; provide maintenance and
repair services of audio and video equipment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Organize, coordinate and schedule the operations of an audio visual support program. E
Provide maintenance and repair services of audio and video equipment; troubleshoot, maintain
and repair a variety of audio and video equipment including televisions, VCR's, film projector,
record player, amplifiers, public address systems and related equipment. E
Plan television and radio broadcast schedules and broadcast programs according to
established time lines. E
Provide technical assistance regarding the application of audio-visual and electronic equipment
and programs for academic and extra-curricular activities. E
Provide audio and video recording services for academics, sports events and other campus
activities as required; edit and duplicate as needed. E
Develop and implement audio visual support program policies and procedures regarding the
check out of equipment, requesting of services and related policies and procedures. E
Prepare and maintain various records and reports involving equipment maintenance, equipment
assignments, inventories and scheduling. E
Provide and produce commercial and internal radio and television program materials; write
television spots for campus functions; produce finished television spots for air play.
Train others in the operation and maintenance of audio visual equipment.
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Terminology, procedures and techniques regarding radio, television and related multi-media
equipment.
Electrical and electronic theory, circuits, component parts and related diagrams.
Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of audio
and video equipment.
VTR and sound recording techniques.
Health and safety regulations.
Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.
Technical aspects of field of specialty.
Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.
ABILITY TO:
Provide technical assistance regarding the application of audio visual equipment and programs
for academic and extra-curricular activities.
Operate studio broadcasting equipment including professional videotape and audio recorders
and editing equipment.
Operate and service professional radio-television broadcast equipment.
Train and assist students, teachers and staff in the use of audio-visual and electronic equipment.
Operate media equipment such as projectors, audio/visual tape recording and playback
equipment, splicers, mixers and reproducers.
Adjust, repair and maintain media equipment.
Read and interpret technical instructions from manuals related to audio-visual equipment.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Work independently with little direction.
Plan and organize work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: two years college-level course work in radio and television
production and two years experience in operation and maintenance of audio visual equipment.
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Lifting and carrying heavy objects.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate audio-visual and electronic equipment.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time to provide assistance.
Pushing or pulling to transport televisions on carts.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to install audio cables.
HAZARDS:
Working at heights.
