Yogabulary is a comprehensive yoga asana vocabulary building flashcard app, with 200 flashcards that cover all the terms that make up the names of common yoga poses, as well as, most of the more esoteric ones. Designed to help you learn the terms that make up the names of yoga poses; the cards contain the component terms, not the full names of the postures. For example, you will find “bheka” (frog), and “asana” (pose) but not “bhekasana”. Let’s have a quick tour of the app! The Home Menu Upon launching the app, you will be presented with the Home Menu; this is where selections are made, and / or searches are performed. To make or clear a selection, tap on the square boxes on the right of the category name. Unselected categories have empty boxes; Selected categories are ticked. Tapping on an empty box will select it; Tapping on a box with a tick will deselect it. You may also tap the All Cards box to select or deselect all the cards at once. Given the limitations of screen size, you may have to scroll down to view the rest of the categories. In the example on the left, Actions & Body Parts are selected; All Cards, Animals, Birds, Deities and Directions & Positions are not selected. 1/4 The Search Function Searches must be performed in the Home Menu; Tap on the search field, a keyboard will appear for your use, or scroll up and down to look for your word. You may enter a few letters to narrow your search, without losing the ability to search by scrolling up and down the screen… Every letter you enter will help refine the results by removing any word that DOES NOT contain the entered letter(s). Sanskrit, or English terms may be searched. In the example on the left, since “vat” is typed, the only options are “vatayana” and “parvata” - tap on either to retrieve the card. The Cards Each card is black on one side and white on the other; tapping the card will flip the card from the black-side to the white-side, or vice versa. On the black-side of the card, you will find the Sanksrit term rendered in: 1. Devanagari 2. Standard transliteration 3. Commonly spelled variations 4. Clicking this button will change it so that the white-sides are showing (English terms). Sanskrit button: only appears if you click the English button, then you will be swiping through the cards with the white-sides (English terms) showing. Click this button to return to the black-sides (Sanskrit terms). Speaker button: click to hear the pronunciation. 3/4 More Interface Elements This is the counter: 81/200 means that this is the 81st card out of the 200 cards that you selected. Press this “x” to remove the current card from your initial selection. For example, if you pressed this “x” now, the card “kraunca”, will be removed from the selection. The counter will then read 81/199, and “kukkuta”, which is the card after “kraunca” in this case, will become the new 81st card.
