Course Prerequisite
All the information concerning the course will be available
and posted on the Class Web-Site (Board).
Course Notes, Homework, Homework solutions will be
posted on the Web-Site and/or distributed in class.

The course covers a number of topics and it will be
beneficial if you have basic knowledge of Optics,
Communications, Probability Theory, Circuit Theory and
Some Network Theory.
However, all the basic concepts will be introduced in
class.
If you need further explanations or clarifications
questions are welcome, the class is almost 3 hours long
and I prefer not to be the only one to talk!!!

Text Book and Material
Homeworks: almost on weekly basis. They will count
for the 10% of the final grade.
I will ask you also to read and comment some selected
papers as part of your homework assignments.
A Midterm Exam: it will count for the 30% of the
final grade. Date? Probably around Beginning of
March….
A Final Exam: it will count for 60% of the final grade.
Final Exam Date? The last day of Class !!!!!!!!
Note: both exams will consist in two sections. One
closed books section. One open class notes (only)
section.
Extra Credits? No.

Textbook: Optical Fiber Communications Systems
During the course, class notes and journal papers covering the
course material will be distributed through the course web-page.
Of course, you are responsible only of the material covered in class!
Class notes will be distributed right after the class or just before,
over the class web-page
Tests (midterm and final) will cover what is done in class and
presented in your class notes.
The “official textbook”: ‘Optical Fiber Communications Systems’ by
L. Kazowsky,S. Benedetto, and A. Willner -Artech House Publ. 1996.
However, here a list of books that are recommended. Depending on
your professional interests and background you may consider the
following ones .... just remember:
