C OLLEGE TOURS ARE A HIT ! ETS students consistently report that our college tours are highlights of their ETS experience. The opportunity to get a firsthand feel for what the campus is like as well as the fun we have on tours make these experiences valuable. We have tours planned for 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grades this fall. ETS students in good standing are invited to attend. All tours are free of charge to ETS students. Following are details of these tours. Please see your ETS advisor to sign up! The eight grade tour to Dixie State is a great opportunity for students to be greeted by the ambassadors and have lunch at the Red Rock Café. The ninth grade tour to Southern Utah University involves a presentation about the college and a tour around the campus, plus lunch at the Sharwan Center. Tenth Graders will go to UNLV. In addition to a tour of the university they will be able to tour Hoover Dam. High School juniors will have the opportunity to go for three days to schools in Northern Utah: UVU, BYU, U of U, WSU, and USU. Talk to your ETS Advisor to get signed up! WE HAVE TOURS PLANNED FOR 8 TH , 9 TH , 10 TH , AND 11 TH GRADES THIS FALL . A LL TOURS ARE FREE OF CHARGE TO ETS STUDENTS ! I MPROVING YOUR S TUDY S KILLS 1. Learn time management skills. Organization is the key to improving study skills. Set out a plan before you begin and stick to it. It will not only help you accomplish your goals, it will keep you on track time-wise. 2. Study in short bursts. There is nothing worse than burnout when you are trying to study. Don’t try to do a marathon session of studying, as you will not be able to remember everything all at once. Take breaks every now and then between chapters or subjects to give your brain a rest! 3. Block out distractions. Turn off your phone, shut off your IM program and the TV, and close your door. Nothing will derail your studying as quickly as interruptions. If you really want to be successful, you need to focus. 4. Cramming is not the answer! Don’t put off studying for a test until the last minute. Most teach- ers give you plenty of advance warning before an upcoming test. Study small sections at a time over a span of days and you will remember more. Then you can review everything right before the test if it is necessary. You might be surprised at how much you actually remembered. Take your time, make a plan, and stick with it. The key to improving study skills is to study smart, not hard. Don’t procrastinate and don’t get distracted!
