Public Act 174 takes the place of the long standing PA 53 of 1974. This legislation lays out new requirements for all stakeholders, from government agencies to excavation practices. County Drain Commissioners have some immunity under the new act. The session will explore the requirements and expectations affecting stakeholder groups that may impact operations at County Drain offices. Under the authority of the City of Pontiac’s emergency manager, the City and the County were able to improve the environment, reduce sewage treatment costs, and help the City recover from serious financial challenges. The focus will be on watershed size and shape, as well as valley morphology. The fascinating story of the prehistoric development of our rivers can provide valuable insights that are helpful for the modern day management of these resources.
