DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
The School of Physics and Astronomy at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will lead a research laboratory developing or
using detectors within the Center for Detectors and be committed to excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum
and service contributions to the School of Physics and Astronomy. There is particular interest in research that includes
optical or infrared astronomical instrumentation. The position is anticipated to be at the rank of Assistant Professor,
however, candidates with experience and qualifications consistent with appointment at a higher rank are also strongly
encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or closely related field and have relevant postdoctoral
experience. Candidates must possess an ability to establish and maintain a laboratory-based research group, have
demonstrated ability or strong potential to obtain significant grant funding, show evidence of ongoing research excellence,
and have experience with or demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring student research at the graduate and
undergraduate levels. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States beginning August 17, 2015, and be
a U.S. Person as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), have the ability to obtain the appropriate license to comply with the US
Export Control Laws, or otherwise legally access ITAR-controlled technology or data.

THE COLLEGE/DEPARTMENT:
The College of Science is home to five major academic units and plays a vital and central role in contributing to the
mission of RIT. The College of Science has a rich portfolio of strong undergraduate and graduate programs, including
three of RIT's six Ph.D. programs, and is known nationally and internationally for its innovative research programs. This
faculty position will have a primary appointment in a school within the College of Science.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 A Ph.D. in physics, materials science, engineering, astrophysics, or related fields
 Post-doctoral experience
 Demonstrated commitment to research and excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum
 Ability to establish and maintain a research program in developing and/or deploying advanced detectors
 A commitment to the educational mission of the College of Science
 Capable of including graduate and undergraduate students in research
 Strong communication skills
 Legally eligible to work in the United States beginning August, 2015
 Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism,
and individual differences
 Be a U.S. Person as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), have the ability to obtain the appropriate license to comply
