Prescott College's Bright Future Over the past couple of weeks, we have heard many numbers that speak to the College’s current economic problems. Yes, they are real and have been addressed. However, I want to share with you some numbers that make me optimistic about the longevity of Prescott College. The Annual Fund closed the 2010-2011 fiscal year at $200,264. In the prior fiscal year, the Annual Fund raised $186,281. The fact that giving to the Annual Fund is back up above $200,000 helps position us for continued growth of annual gifts and our donor pool. Many of you helped us grow the Annual Fund. I thank you for this and hope you will continue your generosity. Prescott College continues to grow its endowments as well. We have 27 endowments, 23 of which are dedicated to scholarships for students. In May 2011, we added our 27th endowed fund, the Prescott College Alumni Fund for Faculty Endowment. This is the first endowed fund devoted to professional development for the faculty. The Charles Franklin Parker Legacy Society, as of June 30, 2011, recognized 25 individuals, families, or couples who have Prescott College in their https://www.kintera.com/kintera_sphere/Email/New/EmailEditor.aspx 10/17/2011 Ecos, The Prescott College eNewsletter for Alumni and Friends Page 2 of 6 will. The College was made aware of three of these planned gifts last fiscal year, and we received information about another anonymous gift in July. We are also aggressively pursuing grants to help support our strategic needs and initiatives. I’m confident that the College’s strengths will be recognized and we will receive funding to grow programs as well as initiate new ones. Gifts to the Annual Fund, our growing endowments, and our planned giving program tell me that staff, faculty, alumni, parents, and friends of the College believe in and support its future. I believe our future is bright as we work to make Prescott College less tuition dependent. Marjory J. Sente,Vice President for Institutional Advancement msente@prescott.edu Call For Papers—Journal of Sustainability Education 2012 Theme: The Geography of Sustainability Guest Editor: Fausto O. Sarmiento, Ph.D. As the 21st century develops, so too our understanding and application of sustainability concepts will emerge and mature. We must confront the realities of a world where multiple regions and cultures dominate as we forge ahead through the decades in which human population will reach its peak and the production of carbon-based energy will decline. A cross-cultural and multi-regional framework, in which geography -- with its inherent incorporation of the cultural and the physical, from the micro- to the meta-level -- plays a central role, will be crucial to the development of this new paradigm for sustainability. In this spirit, we solicit scholarly and punctual contributions on the theme of “the geography of sustainability." Preference will be given to authors who address the emerging binaries that guide our understanding and education about sustainability: north versus south; natural versus cultural; carbon-based versus electron-based; urban versus rural; traditional versus modern. JSE emphasizes how we teach and learn about these important topics in formal and informal settings at all stages of life. For details on prospective manuscripts, please contact Fausto O. Sarmiento (fsarmien@uga.edu), University of Georgia geography professor, who serves as guest editor for this special issue of JSE on the theme of geography of sustainability. The Journal of Sustainability of Education accepts well-researched scholarly submissions of 3000 words or longer, formatted and cited according to the standards of your discipline. Look at our newest issue for exemplars at http://www.jsedimensions.org/wordpress/. Please incorporate figures and tables, with captions, within the body of your manuscript. Microsoft Word compatible files are preferable to facilitate on-screen mark-up and corrections. For scholarly submissions, the manuscript should maintain author anonymity to facilitate the peer review process. Scholarly manuscripts should be submitted through our Online Journal System, available at the JSE website (www.jsedimensions.org). Authors must register using a quick five-minute process. We also encourage authors to register as reviewers; please be sure to give us as much information as possible about your disciplinary interests. Please contact the editor with any questions. We also accept timely, brief submissions for the following journal sections: Reports, Opinions, Case Studies, Media Reviews, and Journeys. These submissions should be less than 3,000 words and include minimal citations. Shorter timely pieces can be sent directly to the editor and will be reviewed by the JSE staff. Submissions are due January 1, 2012, for consideration to be published in the March 2012 edition. Thanks for your interest in publishing in the Journal of Sustainability Education!
