Essay = I believe that GPA is not the only way to determine whether a person will be successful in his studies. Of course others will look at GPA in order to see how well a person understands the theory taught in school. In order to succeed in W.P. Carrey, a person needs more than that. Not only good at its studies, a person must also be able build connections. Grasping every opportunity and facility available in the university is the most effective way to build connections. Being successful also does not mean good at studying but also to be innovative and thinking differently. One of the ways to build connection is by maintaining good relationships with peers and professors. Good communications can only be done easily if a person had many experiences talking to variety of people. To associate with as many people as possible, I have joined multiple clubs such as ABLA (Asian Business Leadership

Association), PERMIAS (Indonesian Student Association), and ASU Dust Devils Dragon Boat. I think that being in variety kinds of clubs helps me to learn how to talk to different kinds of people, increasing my opportunity to learn business interaction in different fields and talking to people with different interests. Other than ability to build connection, a person has to be creative in order to succeed and GPA does not show how creative you are. GPA is not a meter to measure things that are not taught in school. At university level, direct communications such as verbal conversation is the only way to see how creative a person is. In order to sharpen innovations and ideas, frequently reading newspaper and conversing with people with experience simulated me to think more seriously and more open to different methods. ‘There are many ways lead to Rome’ is my favorite quote. There are many ways to be successful, whether its fun, boring traditional, modern, all can be used in order to succeed. My goal is to be more successful than how I already am. I got the opportunity to study in United States, a place much more advanced and very far away from my home country. I had the chance to learn things that is definitely not taught back at my traditional home country. Being here made me think outside the box and I hope I can still do so in the future. I want to use this opportunity to help people of my own, changing the way people in my country think by showing how others did it, and making them more open minded and consider variety of options.
