The teacher choose 4 different disorders and handed out the assignments. What was good was that the students did not get the same disorder as the student next to them. The students were given 3 days to research and create a presentation to then present to the class. Presentation Software 9, 10, 11, 12 Science iMovie and Keynote iMovie and Keynote-Ocean Research-All 1st Grade First Graders conducted research about all the ocean layers and the creatures that live within each layer. They chose one creature to learn about in greater depth, and they created a project of their choosing(sculptures, illustrations...etc). They captured an image of their projects. We put these images into Keynote and iMovie, and each student completed an audio recording about their creature. Presentation Software, Video Production (iMovie, Final Cut Pro), Digital Images (iPhoto, Photoshop) 1 Science Gummy Bear Lab Using iMovie and Numbers, students filmed the lab activity and then transferred data onto a table. Spreadsheets (Numbers, 7 Excel), Web Publishing (iWeb, StudyWiz, blogging, wiki, etc.) Science Meiosis The teacher used Comic Life to describe the steps of meiosis. The students had to locate appropriate images for each step and then describe what is occurring in each step. The students then were instructed to upload their completed project into a shared elocker on studywiz. Desktop Publishing (Pages, Comic Life) 9/1 0/2 010 Science Newton's Laws Students used iMovie and Flip cameras to demonstrate Newton's Laws of Motion. Word Processing (Pages, Word), Spreadsheets (Numbers, Excel), Probeware (Science Probes, Math CBR) 5 Science Next Step Mars Videoconfere nce Students engaged in a videoconference about Video Conferencing (Desktop Missions to Mars and Mars itself. Comparisons Conferencing, VTC) were drawn between Mars and Earth. Students learned details about the solar system, Mars, and how NASA plans for and executes missions to Mars. 4 Science Challenged Based Learning The students are currently working on a Challenge Based Learning project. We looked at a overarching questions/challenge,and the students brainstormed questions that they had that were related to the larger challenge. Our next step is going to be revisiting the questions that students have posed, and considering how we will guide the inquiry. Various technology tools will be utilized as a part of this project. How cold Kinder students compare the temperatures of air Probeware (Science Probes, vs ice using Go!Temp Probes on the Mac COWs. Math CBR) K Science Sea Life Students research various sea animals and then Video Production (iMovie, report of them in front of a green screen. These Final Cut Pro) are then superimposed over video footage taken at the Texas State Aquarium. First grade students chose an animal to research from the movie clips Mrs. Orth took at the Texas State Aquarium in the summer. They gathered the facts and made their report in front of a green screen. 1 Science How Do I Measure Up? Students proceed through various stations to record their measurements: height, weight, lung capacity, jumping and temperature. At each station their data is put into a computer spreadsheet. Discussion followed the activity. Video Production (iMovie, Final Cut Pro), Video Conferencing (Desktop Conferencing, VTC) 3 Social Studies, Science Science Vocabulary and Keynote Students conducted a science vocabulary inquiry with the use of their text book, and the internet. They put together slides within Keynote. Each individual student created a slide about a particular vocabulary word. They selected images to represent that word, created an audio recording about the word, and put text with their images. This was then put into an iMovie format, and all the students viewed the vocabulary words in the movie format. Each segment that is chosen will correlate with current science topics. Students will view the video segment, take notes about the segment, consider how they would communicate or teach about what they learned form the video segment. This will require students to have a deeper understanding of the content and vocabulary imbedded within the video, and it will give them the opportunity to communicate their learning in a way that will benefit other students.
