Research
The teacher took a step to have the students
research genetic disorders. The teacher choose
4 different disorders and handed out the
assignments. What was good was that the
students did not get the same disorder as the
student next to them. The students were given 3
days to research and create a presentation to
then present to the class.

iMovie and Keynote-Ocean Research-All 1st
Grade
First Graders conducted research about all the
ocean layers and the creatures that live within
each layer. They chose one creature to learn
about in greater depth, and they created a
project of their choosing(sculptures,
illustrations...etc). They captured an image of
their projects. We put these images into Keynote
and iMovie, and each student completed an
audio recording about their creature.

Meiosis
The teacher used Comic Life to describe the
steps of meiosis. The students had to locate
appropriate images for each step and then
describe what is occurring in each step. The
students then were instructed to upload their
completed project into a shared elocker on
studywiz.

All the first grade students conducted research
about different insects. They put together a

Vocabulary
The 2nd graders have been learning about
Presentation Software, Digital
Keynote, and have been working with their
Images (iPhoto, Photoshop)
science vocabulary in combination with Keynote.
They have been focusing on specific vocabulary
words, picking an image that represents that
word, and describing the word through typing in
text. It is a multi-faceted approach to vocabulary
development.

Learning
The students are currently working on a
Challenge Based Learning project. We looked at
a overarching questions/challenge,and the
students brainstormed questions that they had
that were related to the larger challenge. Our
next step is going to be revisiting the questions
that students have posed, and considering how
we will guide the inquiry. Various technology
tools will be utilized as a part of this project.

Vocabulary
and Keynote
Students conducted a science vocabulary inquiry
with the use of their text book, and the internet.
They put together slides within Keynote. Each
individual student created a slide about a
particular vocabulary word. They selected
images to represent that word, created an audio
recording about the word, and put text with their
images. This was then put into an iMovie format,
and all the students viewed the vocabulary
words in the movie format.

Narration
Students will be recording their own narration to

correlate with current science topics. Students
will view the video segment, take notes about the
segment, consider how they would communicate

segment. This will require students to have a
deeper understanding of the content and
vocabulary imbedded within the video, and it will
give them the opportunity to communicate their
learning in a way that will benefit other students.

Reflection
We have been examining possible ways for
students to reflect on their own learning, and
how we can document their reflections. We are
looking at assessments that are built within
AWARE, and then the students would reflect via
an online format. The data that illustrates the
students growth would be shared via graphic
representation, so students will be tracking their
growth over time. In addition, we have been
looking at Google Forms as an additional
resource for having students reflect via an online
format, and then they will be able to reflect on
the data that is compiled over time. All of this is
tied to the Student Expectations outlined by the
state.

take pictures of our faces being distorted by the
