COURTS AND TRIBUNALS FELLOWSHIP SCHEME The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) offers a unique opportunity for parliamentarians to gain a greater understanding of the UK’s legal and judicial systems, and to learn more about the effect law has on businesses. This new scheme for 2015 will provide parliamentarians with the opportunity to spend five days at the Royal Courts of Justice in London and regional courts around the UK, shadowing different members of the judiciary, observing court and tribunal hearings, seeing case papers beforehand, and having the opportunity to discuss proceedings with the judge before and after the hearing. The scheme offers a terrific opportunity to learn about different perspectives on the UK’s legal framework, and how they effect business. Each day will be spent with a different arm of the judiciary, which includes: Competition Appeal Commercial Court Chancery Division Court of Appeal Tribunal Administrative and Planning Court Technology & Construction Court Patents Court Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery) Local Courts and Tribunals Employment Appeal Tribunal Members of the House of Commons and House of Lords are welcome to take part in the scheme. Depending on the interest of the applicant, the IPT and Royal Courts of Justice will be able to tailormake a programme that is of greatest interest to the parliamentarian, which might also include a visit to a local court or tribunal in the Member’s constituency.
