CREDIT BY EXAMINATION
FIRST YEAR SPANISH (SPANISH 1-2)
Topics Include:
• Dication to check spelling and listening comprehension
• A series of pictures to match with oral descriptions
• Basic Vocabulary and Common Idiomatic Expressions: greetings, introductions,
questions, responses; and other statements about: time, date, weather, home and
family, school, daily activities, preferences, feelings, descriptions of people,
places and situations.
• Linguistic Structures: Agreement and pluralization of nouns and adjectives
(including definite and indefinite articles and demonstrative adjectives).
Expressions of ownership or relationship using possessive adjectives and/or de
phrases with nouns. Comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. Use of
prepositions and the contractions al and del. Use of direct, indirect, reflexive and
prepositional object pronouns. Expressing action in the present and past, using
present tense of regular, irregular, and stem-changing verbs and preterite tense of
regular verbs. Distinguishing between ser/estar. Using estar plus present
participle to convey activities in progress and ir a plus infinitive to describe future
events.
• Communication functions: Formation of questions and use of interrogative
expressions. Use of affirmative and negative expressions.
• Expression of numbers and telling of time.
• Culture: Basic general information about Hispanic culture and patterns of daily
life.
