Frequently Asked Questions 1. Q: How do I obtain my ISU Card? A: You will set these accounts up during the university’s Orientation in June. If you cannot attend Orientation, your ISU Card can be set up in Room 0530, Beardshear Hall, Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. 2. Q: How do I set up my Iowa State E‐mail? A: Net ID and E‐mail can be set up at 195 Durham Center. If you cannot attend Orientation, you can set up your e‐mail address online by clicking “Cy‐Mail” on the Iowa State University Homepage. 3. Q: Where do I find information about ISU’s Meal Plan? A: http://www.dining.iastate.edu/meal‐plans 4. Q: What should I do about Text Books? A: If you are on athletic scholarship, DO NOT pre‐orders your textbooks. The Athletics Department will provide the textbooks for you. You will pick up your textbooks at 2158 Hixson‐Lied Student Success Center on Thursday prior to school beginning. Before you can pick up your books, you need to have your Financial Aid Agreement form completed and returned to the Compliance Office. If you are not on scholarship, you can purchase your books at the Iowa State Bookstore or online through AccessPlus: Textbook Ordering Instruction 
Login to AccessPlus below and go to the student tab.  Select class schedule on the left menu.  Click the "View complete textbook list" link in the upper right area of your schedule to open your book list on the ISU Book Store website. 5. Q: How do I register my vehicle and/or bicycle? A: No parking is allowed on campus without a permit. If you are commuting, you can purchase a commuter pass or park near the stadium and take Cy‐Ride onto campus. Student athletes can apply for parking for the Hixson‐Lied/ Lied Recreation Center (Lot 56). Information regarding parking on campus, permits, rules, & regulations can be found on‐line at www.dps.iastate.edu/parking/homepage.html. Bike registration can be found at: www.dps.iastate.edu/parking/bikereg.html. 6. Q: What is FERPA? A: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) establishes privacy rights for all university students and Iowa State University adheres to these guidelines. Parents may gain third party access to their student’s account if the student authorizes it. In order for parents to obtain academic information from an Athletics Academic Coordinator, the student‐athlete must fill out the STUDENT REQUEST FOR RELEASING GRADE INFORMATION form. 7. Q: How do I pay student account charges A: You may view and pay student U‐Bill Statements on Access Plus. types 8. Q: If I have a diagnosed learning disability, where should I go to receive the support services? A: Student Disability Resources (SDR) provides resources and services to all students with disabilities. Students with diagnosed learning disabilities should contact their Academic Coordinator who will help assist you. Appointments can be made by calling SDR at (515) 294‐5197. Counseling series offers: Biofeedback, mood and motivational counseling, substance abuse, eating disorder concerns, individual and group counseling, and much more. For more information or to make an appointment call: (515) 294‐5056 10. Q: Where can we sign up for tutoring? A: Student‐Athletes can request tutoring through Athletics Academic Services. Please contact your Academic Coordinator at the beginning of the semester to request a tutor. You can also request a tutor using our GradesFirst system at www.cyclones.gradesfirst.com. 11. Q: As a student‐athlete, do I have to purchase game tickets? A: No, student‐athletes do not pay for ISU game tickets. Please see your academic coordinator to obtain a sticker to be placed on your ISU Student‐ID. 12. Q: When do I register for Fall classes? A: You will register for classes with your Major (Area of Study) Academic Adviser during your orientation date in June. Your Academic Coordinator will review your schedule to make sure that practice and competition do not interfere.
