Organ System Overview
Name ___________________
Hour _____
Our bodies are remarkable and very complicated machines. Learning about their parts, how
they work, and how to keep them healthy is important for each person to live a happy, healthy
life. Over the course of this year, we will discuss all organ systems in detail but it is essential that we
begin the year with understanding the basics of each. These systems do not operate in isolation but
rather rely on one another to keep our bodies going.
You are going to work in teams to learn some details about one of the 12 body systems. You will do this
by researching different resources to gather information about your assigned body system. When you
have finished your research, you and your group will then design 3-4 Notebook slides to share with the
rest of the class. Your group will then present this information and TEACH the others about your body
system. Ultimately you will be responsible in demonstrating understanding of the basics of EACH body
system in a summative assessment. This test will include the following learning targets...
Learning Targets:
1. I can name the organ systems of the body, and briefly state the major functions of each system.
2. I can identify and classify, by organ system, all organs discussed.
Research Requirements
The following questions (1-8) must be answered in EACH of your journals first. Then create a notebook
file of questions 1-4, that follows the interactive guidelines as stated below.
*REMEMBER TO CITE YOUR SOURCES—RECORD WHERE YOU GOT EACH PIECE OF INFORMATION!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What are the main parts of your system? *Provide an interactive diagram with moveable labels
for your classmates to manipulate and study from!
2. What are the main functions of your system? *Provide a rhyme, catchy phrase or mnemonic
device to help your classmates remember these details!
3. What are 4-5 interesting facts you learned about your system?
4. Share a case study, interesting story or personal experience that highlights this body system.
*Help us remember this system by what you decide to share!
Additional Journal Pursuits!
*To be researched and explained in your journal BUT does not have to be a part of your
presentation.
