College of Family and Consumer Sciences Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors Assistant Professor in Furnishings and Interiors Position #67423 POSITION: Assistant Professor in Furnishings and Interiors (9-month, tenure-track appointment). RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Teach undergraduate courses and graduate courses in furnishings and interiors with a typical teaching load of 6 to 8 courses per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters); 2) prepare innovative teaching materials, instructional techniques and curricula which contribute to effective student learning and contribute to overall department curricula; 3) publish articles, textbooks, reviews, or abstracts that reflect contributions to teaching; 4) advise students; 5) provide service to professional organizations, department, college and the university. QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. or Ph.D. with at least one advanced degree in interior design or closely related area. Desired qualifications include AutoCAD proficiency and experience in residential interior design, CKD/CBD certification, ASID, LEED, and/or NCIDQ certifications. Applicants should demonstrate ability to teach in three or more content areas: design fundamentals, drafting and construction documents, rendering and presentation methods, business practices, lighting design, kitchen and bath design and upper division studios focusing on residential interiors (e.g. single-family housing, retirement communities, housing for special populations, sustainable and universal design). THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY: The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors is a unit of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at The University of Georgia. The department has 15 faculty, 250 undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising or Furnishings and Interiors, and 15 graduate students. Furnishing and Interiors is a strong and expanding program with two positions open for academic year 2013-2014. The Furnishings and Interiors major provides undergraduates a program of study focused on residential interior design. The program is accredited by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The Barrow Hall facility houses two drafting studios, a multipurpose studio, two state-of-the-art computer labs, a resource room and a reference library. Senior Studios offer opportunities for hands on design experience in community projects. Previous projects include the Georgia State Department of Agriculture and Athens Regional Medical Center. Faculty and students are also engaged in interdisciplinary work in the FACS ASPIRE clinic (aspireclinic.org) collaborating with financial planners, family therapists and nutrition counselors.
