CIS 110 Introduction to Computers

Course Description: This course introduces computer concepts, including fundamental
functions and operations of the computer. Topics include identification of hardware
components, basic computer operations, security issues, and use of software applications.
Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and
function of computers and use the computer to solve problems. This course has been
approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core
requirement in natural science/mathematics. It is under the curriculum of Computer Information
Technology (A25260)

The student must be able to demonstrate the use of email and the Blackboard platform. The
student must also be able to demonstrate, with at least 70% accuracy, the basic fundamentals
of Microsoft Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, Access 2007, PowerPoint 2007 and Windows XP
through the use of practical lab examples.
FTCC Grading Scale:
FTCC grades are based on a 4.0 grading system. Each grade is assigned a “grade-point
equivalent” in quality points for each term credit hour scheduled. The scholastic point average
is determined by dividing the total of quality points earned by the number of term hours
scheduled.

Courses numbered below 100 are developmental courses. The following grades are assigned

calculated into the student’s cumulative Grade Point Average.

Instructor reserves the right to modify the syllabus, assignments and due dates at any time. Student Attendance Policy:
Each student is expected to attend class regularly - - at least 80 percent of all scheduled
contact hours. In an online class, not submitting an assignment by its due date or not logging
in to the Blackboard site is considered an absence. If absences exceed 20 percent, the faculty
member may drop the student from the course at any point during the term. More information
