University of Bialystok
University of Bialystok was created in
1997 by transforming the former 29 – year
old Branch of Warsaw University. Over the
fifteen years the University of Bialystok has
become a dynamically growing institution
of higher education, the largest
in Podlasie, both in respect of the number
of research workers, fields of study and
forms of education offered as well as the
number of students and graduates.
In the year 2013 the construction of a
modern and well-equipped campus for the
students of natural and mathematical
sciences will be completed.
The University consists of nine faculties,
including one located abroad in Vilnius.
Classes and lectures are delivered by app.
900 academic teachers including more
than 200 university and tenured professors.
At present the University offers courses in
27 fields of study and over 70
specializations for app. 17.500 students
within full-time and part-time programmes.
The major fields of study offer unique and
inter-faculty courses created to meet the
social demand. The curricula are constantly

developed and updated, with a special
emphasis on their interdisciplinary
character. The University offers as many as
90 different postgraduate courses. About
70 student scientific groups and
organizations are active at the University.
In 2010 and 2011 the University of
Bialystok was ranked third in the
competition “The most innovative and
creative institution of higher education in
Poland”. In 2011 the University was
awarded the certificate “University of
Leaders” by the Foundation for
the Development of Education and Higher
Learning. The competition promotes
institutions of higher learning which invest in
the job market-oriented education and care
about the practical education of students.
The University is entitled to confer the
university degree of doctor in economic,
legal, physical, biological and chemical
sciences as well as in humanities, that
is in history, language studies, literature and
pedagogy, and the postdoctoral degree of
doctor habilitatus in law, economics,
biology and history.

The scientific staff at the University
conduct scientific research at international
level, both in natural and exact sciences as
well as in humanities and social sciences,
not only expanding the boundaries of
knowledge by making discoveries, but also
by providing expertise and experience to
the whole region of Podlasie. The works
connected with the unique nature and
cultural diversity of the region should be
especially emphasized.
The University cooperates with
institutions of higher education abroad
within the frames of almost 150
agreements for scientific cooperation
in LLP Erasmus Programme, Leonardo da
Vinci Programme and Framework
Programmes.
Presently we do not offer the study
programmes in English except English
Philology course, but we provide more than
115 classes in foreign languages.

The Intemational Economic Relations full-time first degree studies programme (IER) falls within the social sciences area
described within the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
The studies enable to understand mechanisms of international relations and global economy functioning. Knowledge
obtained during the studies serves as the basis for the analysis of state economic and political problems from an
international perspective. The studies prepare for professional jobs as middle-ranked specialists and analysts in state and
self-government administration units, international or national organizations and institutions cooperating with abroad,
enterprises operating in international markets as well as for undertaking one’s own business activity.
A graduate of first degree studies in International Economic Relations in the field of International Trade acquires
knowledge in the scope of development economics, foreign trade organization, management, law, marketing and financial
strategic aspects of international enterprises. The graduate acquires advanced skills in showing fluency and innovation
necessary to solve complex problems occurring in global economy, most of all, at the contact point between business
subjects, regulatory institutions and international organizations. Moreover, the graduate is equipped with competences to
manage vocationally complex activities and projects, bear responsibility for his or her own decisions as well as take
responsibility for managing his or her own professional development and development of teams he or she is a part of.
A total number of hours of didactic classes amounts to 1635.

Philology, in the field of: English Philology full-time first degree studies programme of general academic profile belong
to the education area of the humanities.
The aim of English studies is to acquire basic knowledge of the target language, literature and culture and to employ
it in professional and social contexts in an ethical way. The graduates can use at least one target language at the C1 level
of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and can use the target language for specific purposes.
They also have interdisciplinary competence which enables them to apply their knowledge and ability to use language in
different fields of academic and social life. They can solve professional problems, gather, process and transfer information
(both in written and oral forms) and participate in team work. Their qualifications should allow them to work in
educational, administrative and cultural institutions such as publishing houses, editorial boards, mass media, tourist
industry, services, etc. – mainly in places where good knowledge of the target language and culture is required. They can
also work as teachers of English in primary and lower secondary schools after completing a special pedagogical programme
provided by the Teachers` Educational Centre of UwB (CEN). The graduates are well-prepared to continue their studies
at MA level.

русская филология – языковая комуникация в сфере бизнеса создана для особ, желающих после
окончания ВУЗа работать на предприятиях и в учреждениях, поддерживающих контакты с партнерами из
Российской Федерации. Выпускник, кроме элементарного общегуманитарного образования, обладает
основами знаний о языке, литературе, истории и культуре России, освоил практическое знание русского
языка на уровне С1 согласно Европейской системе характеристики языкового обучения Совета Европы.
русская филология – языковая комуникация в сфере бизнеса дает выпускнику навыки ведения
управленческой и торговой корреспонденции, по переводу деловых переговоров, а также контрактов и
договоров, подписанных с российскими партнерами по бизнесу. Это дает ему возможность найти работу в
торговых, туристических и культурных фирмах, в которых в связи со спицифическими международными
контактами необходимо активное знание русского языка. Выпускник обладает уровнем знаний, дающим
возможность продолжить обучение на уровне магистрата.

Окончивший бакалавриат, кроме элементарного общегуманитарного образования, обладает основами
знаний о языке, литературе, истории и культуре России, освоил практическое знание русского языка на уровне
С1, согласно Европейской системе характеристики языкового обучения Совета Европы. Выпускник умеет
также пользоваться специальной терминологией, необходимой для проведения филологических
исследований и формулировки высказываний из области восточнославянского языковедения и
литературоведения. Приобретенные умения дают ему возможность найти работу в издательствах, газетных
редакциях, средствах массовой информации, туризме, секторе услуг, где необходимо хорошее знание языка и
русской культуры. Более того, после окончания курса педагогического обучения выпускник получает
профессиональную квалификацию на обучение русскому языку в детских дошкольных заведениях, начальной
школе и гимназии. Он обладает уровнем знаний, дающим возможность продолжить обучение на уровне
магистрата.
Количество часов занятий 2040 (+ 120 сверхобязательных, в случае выбора дополнительного обучения,
предложенного Центром Народного Образования - ЦНО).

The European Studies full-time second degree studies taught in English and Russian fall within the education field of
social science described in the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education. Students are offered learning
outcomes in the field of knowledge, skills and social competences proper for social sciences such as history, law,
administration, political science, economy, philosophy.
The program provides students with firm grounding in EU institutions and policies. The courses offered within
European Studies have a wide European dimension yet focusing on problems of Central and Eastern Europe. Graduates
may pursue careers in European institutions, national administration, non-governmental organizations, as well as in the
private sector.
European Studies is a full time program composed of a set of compulsory courses accompanied by a set of elective
courses within two specialization options:
Economy of the European Union, and
History and Politics of Central and Eastern Europe.

various and complex cultures and economic, political and social systems.

обладает глубокими знаниями по языковедению, литературоведению и в области переводческой
деятельности (в зависимости от выбранной специальности), что дает ему необходимую компетенцию для
работы переводчиком, в издательствах и газетных редакциях, средствах массовой информации, культурных
и исследовательских учреждениях, а также в секторе услуг, где является необходимым совершенный уровень
знания языка и культуры. Выпускнику привиты навыки совершенствования и профессионального развития,
