Students will go to the following website and pay the $40 fee: http://www.slcc.edu/concurrentenrollment/students/Step1-‐Qualifying.aspx What is an S number and how do I get it? Once a student applies for concurrent enrollment, they will be mailed an S number within 10 business days. Proctors may call and get S numbers two days after the student has applied. orm2.docx What is the Accuplacer test and do I have to take it? The Accuplacer test is a national college test that measures a student’s preparedness for a course. All students enrolling in concurrent enrollment must either take the Accuplacer test or ACT test and achieve the following cut offs to qualify for concurrent enrollment: Course: 1010 ACT Math 18 Reading 16 Accuplacer Elementary Math 54 Reading 58 Course: 1050 ACT Math 23 Reading 20 Accuplacer College Level 43 Reading 71 An official copy of ACT scores must be sent to the high school, so that we can pass the information along to SLCC. If a student took Intermediate Algebra (105) last year and passed with a C or better and took the Accuplacer test last year, then they do not need to retake the Accuplacer. They will need to send a transcript from Westminster to SLCC and fill out the following transcript evaluation form: http://sasbot.slcc.edu/webforms/transcriptevaluation/requestform.aspx If my child did not pass the test, may they retest? Students may test twice in a semester, but retesting must take place at SLCC for a $15 fee. They cannot retest at PCHS. How do I prepare for the Accuplacer test? There are several places to obtain practice tests. You may go to the following websites: http://www.slcc.edu/testing/accuplacer-‐websites.aspx http://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students It is highly recommended that students review prior to taking this test. Do I have to take the Accuplacer test if I do not want concurrent enrollment? Yes, but this test will be a high school administered test for $20 and only has a math portion. Do I have to take this test if I am entering AP Statistics or AP Calculus? No, this test is not for either one of these courses. Are there going to be additional test dates? August 26th, first day of school we will have students testing with Mrs. Alcox’s in room 244 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Please plan on the test taking about 2 hours. No appointment is necessary. Accuplacer is given on a walk-‐in basis. It is not a timed test, so you may take as long as you need. It is fairly short. There are only 12 – 20 questions per section. The average student takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete it. The test adjusts the questions to your ability level. This way, the questions are neither too easy nor too hard. It is highly accurate. Accuplacer is used by over 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide and gives you a reliable indication of your skill level. •
