Entering into our 17th year, The Arc of Livingston and
Celebrity Holiday Fashion Show Committee are preparing
for Livingston County’s premiere fundraising event to
support people with disabilities in our community. The gala
is traditionally held the Thursday before the Thanksgiving
holiday with as many as 500 attendees. This year, the
event is scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2010 in
Howell, Michigan at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center.
The event features Detroit sports and media personalities,
as well as Livingston County business and civic leaders. Past
celebrities have included WDIV Channel 4 news anchor,
Steve Garagiola, WXYZ news anchors, Dave LewAllen and
Glenda Lewis, Detroit Tiger’s Dave Dombroski, Detroit
Pistons’ Rick Mahorn, Detroit Lions’ Drew Henson, and Bradford Banta, Detroit Red
Wing Alumnus Bill Gadsby, Dino Ciccarelli, Ted Lindsay, Dennis Hextall, Bill Evo,
and Joe Kocur, as well as recording artists Karen Newman, and Mitch Ryder.
The evening consists of silent and live auctions, a jewelry raffle, dinner and
the fashion show. A wide variety of unique and one of a kind opportunities are
auctioned off with proceeds to benefit the advocacy programs of The Arc of
Livingston. Previous auction items have included a trips anywhere in the world,
Arizona and Chicago vacation packages, an Exotic Car Museum tour, dinner
prepared in your home by renowned chefs, and private suite seating at your
favorite Detroit sporting events.

Sending Kids to Camp
Every year, during the live auction portion of the Celebrity
Fashion Show, there is an opportunity to support the Arc’s
programs such as the “Send a Kid to Camp” program.
Over the past 4 years, the organization has received
over $75,000 to help provide scholarships for children
with disabilities to attend an inclusive camp. Camp
scholarships pay for a variety of supports including camp
registration fees, personal assistance, transportation,
and supplies.
Children have enjoyed dance camps, gymnastics, karate,
horseback riding, extracurricular school activity camps,
nature camps and overnight week long camps. Camping
experiences give children a chance to participate and
share their gifts but also help them learn skills that they
can apply towards living happy and productive lives!
Camp is an experience every
child deserves!

Dear Arc,
Thank you so much for your generosity with
the summer campership that allowed Kent to
go to Lakeshore Adventure Camp at Howell
Nature Center last week. He got to try new
activities, make friends and travel! He even had
the opportunity to go to Interlochen, Sleeping
Bear Dunes, tubing on the Platte River and
attend Michigan Adventure. A week of a
lifetime! Thank you so much! Mrs. M.
In 2009, we celebrated raising the most donations
ever to support the Send a Kid to Camp Program!
In addition to the contributions made by the show’s
attendees, The Arc received an anonymous donation,
and a matching gift from Honorary Board Member
and longtime Arc Supporter, Lauraine Hoensheid.
We sincerely appreciate the generosity that evening
which doubled the previous year’s donations.

Our goal is to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities and their
families have opportunities to network, share information, share experiences
and support one another. Providing Information
& Advocacy
Our family advocates provide information, support and leadership
mentoring to assist families to know rights, effectively communicate
their children’s needs and facilitate parental involvement in the
planning process to help their children develop, learn and be a
part of their community.
