NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholarships for Outstanding High School Students Job Title: Academic Coach ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Length of Appointment: June 31 through August 3, 2016 (in Abu Dhabi from June 31 to July 23 and at an assigned global site (Florence, Italy or New York from July 24 to August 3), with attendance at approximately two meetings prior to the program’s start for orientation activities. Program Overview: The NYUAD Summer Academy is a cross-cultural program designed to enhance the academic profile of highly motivated Emirati high school students about to start their 11th year. The program features intensive instruction in Critical Writing and Thinking, Mathematical Reasoning, Test Preparation, and Leadership Development and Public Speaking over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. Each summer, students receive approximately three weeks of instruction at the NYUAD campus before traveling to Florence, Italy (1st summer) and New York City (2nd summer) for approximately ten days. Responsibilities: Meet individually with students during study hall, meals, breaks, and in the evenings to assist with reading and homework assignments Advise students on the development of individualized college application plans, in conjunction with Summer Academy and NYUAD admissions staff Assist instructors in class with group work and with judging presentations, as necessary Assist chaperones with supervision of students during co-curricular activities in Abu Dhabi, New York, and/or Florence Report any instances of student misconduct, academic performance concerns, and health issues to Summer Academy management Contribute to the overall high-spirited atmosphere of the Summer Academy Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Currently-enrolled graduate student at NYU in New York Available to travel to Abu Dhabi, and New York or Florence (per individual assignment), during the dates listed above Demonstrated interest in cross-cultural education and enthusiasm for teaching Preferred Qualifications: Experience supervising high school students in a co-curricular setting (i.e. summer camp or after school program) Work or internship experience teaching English or other content area to non-native speakers Availability to assist with the administration of the program prior to the start of classes in Abu Dhabi Salary: A competitive stipend is provided for the summer session.
