Zumdahl, Brooks/Cole Cengage Learning; 9 edition or any General Chemistry Book available in the Library. Attendance Policies Attendance is not mandatory. However, the best place for learning is the classroom. Past experience has shown that the students who attend the classes get higher grades. Moreover, we may cover additional material in the class that is not covered in the textbook. Therefore, we as the instructors of CHEM 101 strongly recommend you to attend the classes. Grading Policy Midterm I: 20% Midterm II: 20% Final: 40% Laboratory: 20% Exam Dates st 1 Midterm: November 8, 2014 Saturday 10.00 nd 2 Midterm: December 6, 2014 Saturday 10.00 Final: Important Note!!! All sections (01 and 02) will take common exams. Most of the exams will be over the material that is covered after the previous exam. However, the course builds on the material that has been delivered earlier. So, the concepts; calculations and techniques from earlier exams may be required. The Final Exam will cover all the topics studied during entire semester. Exams will be a comprehensive multiple-choice exam, however you MUST show your work on the exam paper (solution of each question) to get full credit for each question. N/A Grade!!! To be eligible to take the final exam, the sum of your 1 and 2 midterms’ grades should be minimum 50 over 200. 3. If the student gets “0” from 2 experiments, he/she cannot take the final exam and fails both from the laboratory and the course. Keep in mind that a student can take maximum 2 make-ups, if he/she has a medical report. st nd Make-Up Exams No excuse except medical report taken from State Hospital and Medical Center of METU. We do not accept Regional Health Center (Sağlık Ocağı) report. There will be only 1 make-up exam at the end of the semester covering all the chapters.
