Policies:
i) The final grade of the student
percentages:
1st mid-term exam:
2nd mid-term exam:
Final exam:
Lab:
PS:
will be calculated according to the following
20 %
25 %
35 %
15 %
5%
ii) Every student SHOULD attend all the classes. Although attendance will not be
collected, previous year’s exam questions will only be available during classes and
PSs.
iii) The passing grade for the lab portion is 60. A student failing the lab portion
automatically scores “F” for the entire course, regardless of performance on exams. A
student repeating the course will not repeat the lab, if s/he already has a passing grade
from the lab. Previous year’s lab score will be used for calculating the overall grade.
Those students must contact the lab instructor in the first week and verify their
situation. These students, however, must attend the Problem Sessions. The scores
of PS from previous years are not transferable.
iv) A student absent from more than 1 lab session without a legitimate excuse
that is approved by the university officials will automatically receive an F grade
for the course. Zero will be given for the first lab session not attended without a
legitimate excuse.
v) You are expected to return lab reports on time. Lab reports will be collected at
the problem sessions. Missing a PS will automatically result in missing the lab
report deadline as well. Reports returned after the due date will be given zero.
vi) Problem sessions are an integral part of the course and they are mandatory. The
quiz will be given at the end of the PS session and will include previous years’ exam
questions. Late-comers are not admitted to the quiz.
vii) If a student misses an exam, a lab or a PS quiz with a legitimate excuse that is
approved by the university officials, he/she has to contact the course/lab/PS instructor
within 2 days after the excuse is finished to arrange for a make-up. No make-up will
otherwise be given. Make-up exams will be given on 13-14 June 2011, and will
include all topics covered throughout the semester.
viii) In case of any form of academic dishonesty, zero grade will be given for the
exam or the assignment and the KU Disciplinary Action Committee investigation will
be conducted. “Student Code of Conduct” and “Classroom Code of Conduct” can be
found at:
http://www.ku.edu.tr/ku/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1794&Itemid=2670&lang=en
ix) Regular attendance, participation in class, punctuality for lectures and in
assignments will be taken into positive consideration in determining the final grades
of borderline students.
