Gas, thin-layer, column and gel permeation chromatography. RESEARCH Academic: Synthesis and characterization of novel carbene complexes. This was directing undergraduate student research in collaboration with Gary Faber of The College of Charleston. Postdoctoral: Synthesis of novel organometallic compounds. An investigation of the interaction of the isobutylene dianion with transition metal halide compounds while working with Nancy S. Mills at Trinity University. Postdoctoral: Material science. An investigation of the synthesis of novel zeolites and ceramic precursors using modified sol-gel techniques with Riley Schaeffer at the University of New Mexico. Thesis: Synthesis and characterization of novel inorganic compounds using metal vapor cocondensation techniques, photo-oxidation of methanol using a molybdenum oxide sensitizer, polymerization of acetylenes and cyclic olefins induced by molybdenum oxides, and catalytic conversions at molybdenum oxide centers including olefin metathesis and hydrodesulfurization with Carroll W. DeKock at Oregon State University. Graduate Research Assistant: Synthesis of powder of the titanium-aluminum-vanadium alloy, Ti-6-4, under a contract with the United States Air Force. (Concurrent with thesis research.) Undergraduate: Investigation of the use of NMR shift reagents to assign the structures of the thiodan isomers with Jerry Hurley at Eastern Montana College.
