2016 BMHS Band & Orchestra Scholarship Information
Applicable Instruments – Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone,
Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium/Baritone, Tuba, & Percussion

Audition Requirements (3 components)
1 – PREPARED MUSIC
Contact us, and we can email or mail you the required music – please indicate which instrument selection you
wish us to provide. (Contact Mrs. Hardy – contact info below.)
Woodwinds, Brass, and Strings
BMHS has required audition music for each instrument. Students should prepare all of the selected audition music.
Percussion (percussion auditions are asked to choose the dates below denoted by a “*”.)
BMHS has required percussion audition music. For Scholarship Auditions, it is encouraged that students perform on
Snare, Mallets, AND Timpani. However, students may only perform one or two of these instruments if they so
choose.
In addition to the prepared selections, students should be aware of the following:
Snare: rudiments will be quizzed/Mallet: scales should be prepared/Timpani: tuning will not be quizzed.
2 – SCALE REQUIREMENTS
All students will be quizzed on their knowledge of scales. Please consult the BMHS Audition Scale Sheet for more
information.
3 – SIGHT READING
Each student will be led through a sight-reading exercise.
Students will be provided a piece of music on sight and given one minute to examine/study the music. The student
will then be judged on their first time reading of this piece.
Special Instructions
Auditions will take approximately 15 minutes. Students should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled audition
time to warm up and prepare. No accompaniment is necessary.

is November 8th, 2015 thru January 8th, 2016. (Registration closes at 12:00 noon)

Directions




Scales from memory are encouraged.
Scales should be played ascending and descending.
Scales should be played at a steady tempo with consistent articulation.
2 octaves scales are encouraged but not required.
