Covering a cake 2. Marble Sugarpaste Instructions HOW TO Part One - Cake Base 1. Cut a 12” square cake to 1.5” thick (alternatively use two tray bakes). 2. Slice the corners and edges to give a rounded, natural appearance. Adhere the cake onto the centre of a 14” cake board with buttercream. 3. Use rolled lengths and small domes of sugar paste to create the lake, craters and boulders on the top of the cake. 4. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of buttercream. 5. Roll out a layer of Culpitt Light Blue Cake Decorating Sugarpaste approximately 8mm thick. 6. Cover the cake with the layer of paste and mould over craters and boulders. Use the small end of the ball tool to texture the surface. Make sure to leave a flat plain at the back for the planet. 7. Brush the remaining visible parts of the cake board with edible glue then cover with pieces of Culpitt Red Cake Decorating paste to give a lumpy organic look. Texture further with the small end of a PME10 Flower/Leaf scraper. 8. Lightly brush the join between the cake and the base with edible glue and sprinkle with red sparking sugar. www.culpitt.com Instructions HOW TO Part Two - Surface Decorations Mushrooms 1. Roll out a 1cm ball of Fuschia Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste. Then with your finger roll 2-3mm balls of Yellow Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste. Layout randomly on top of the Fuschia Paste and roll together in the palm of your hand to create a polka dot pattern in the paste. Grass Foliage 1. Use the craft gun with the 14 hole disc to create grass foliage. Cut the ribbons of paste to the desired length and stick to the base of the cake using a touch of edible glue. Repeat as required (You could also use grass nozzle 84961). 2. Use the polka dot paste to create mushrooms, using sausages and discs of paste, and then using the edible glue position on the cake as desired. Repeat the above process until you have enough model mushrooms. Red Leaves 1.Use the craft gun with the euro hook shaped disc with Red Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar. 2.Cut the paste into 20mm pieces and pinch one end of each piece to make into a point. Stick the leaves into the craters of the cake as desired using edible glue. Blue Marbled Rocks 1. Roll out cylinders of Light Blue Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste and Blue Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste. Place the cylinders of paste next to each other alternating the light and dark blue and kneed together to create a marbled effect. (See Skill 2 on page 1 ) Textured Round Patches 1. Using your fingers flatten out a 20-25mm coin of paste in your desired colour. Place on the cake in the desired spot and use the PME10 Flower/Leaf Scraper to texture. www.culpitt.com Instructions HOW TO 2. Once you have created the marbled paste cut into squared off rock shapes and place as desired on the cake. Use some edible glue to fix the rocks in place. 3. You can add some extra decoration by adding blue sparkling sugar to the base of the rock. Use some edible glue to ensure the sugar stays in place. Slime Lake 1. Paint the inside of the lake lightly with edible glue and fill with a layer of green sparkling sugar. 2. Add green and yellow food colouring to piping gel until it is a lime colour. Then fill the lake with the piping gel to create the slime lake effect. Part Four - Planet 1. Cut a quarter of one side off the 6 inch round cake to create a flat base. 2. Use red, yellow and white Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste to create the marbled effect paste (See skill 2 on page 1). Cover the 6” cake in the marbled paste (See Skill 1 on page 1). 3. Roll out Blue Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste to approximately 6mm thickness. Lightly dust the inside of the letters texture mat with icing sugar and place the mat on top of the paste. 4. Roll over the paste with a rolling pin until the paste fills the inside of the mat. Carefully peel off the mat and you will be left with the letters imprinted in the paste, carefully cut round the desired letters and using edible glue stick them to the face of the planet cake. Part Three - Spaghetti Monsters 1. Using the craft gun and the 14 hole disc (alternatively you can use the grass piping nozzle) create strings of sugar paste in the desired colour. You will need two lots of 6 inch strands of paste. 5. Repeat this process with the number texture mat. 6. Use buttercream to fix the planet at the back of the monster cake. 2. Pile up the paste into a mound and squeeze together lightly to create the monster’s body. 3. To make the eyes roll white paste into three small balls and add black dots of paste for the pupils. Then using edible glue fix the eyes onto the body of the monsters. www.culpitt.com
