Skills
1. Covering a cake
2. Marble Sugarpaste
Instructions
HOW TO
Part One - Cake Base
1. Cut a 12” square cake to 1.5” thick (alternatively use two tray
bakes).
2. Slice the corners and edges to give a rounded, natural
appearance. Adhere the cake onto the centre of a 14” cake
board with buttercream.
3. Use rolled lengths and small domes of sugar paste to create
the lake, craters and boulders on the top of the cake.
4. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of buttercream.
5. Roll out a layer of Culpitt Light Blue Cake Decorating
Sugarpaste approximately 8mm thick.
6. Cover the cake with the layer of paste and mould over craters
and boulders. Use the small end of the ball tool to texture the
surface. Make sure to leave a flat plain at the back for the
planet.
7. Brush the remaining visible parts of the cake board with edible
glue then cover with pieces of Culpitt Red Cake Decorating
paste to give a lumpy organic look. Texture further with the
small end of a PME10 Flower/Leaf scraper.
8. Lightly brush the join between the cake and the base with
edible glue and sprinkle with red sparking sugar.

HOW TO
Part Two - Surface Decorations
Mushrooms
1. Roll out a 1cm ball of Fuschia Culpitt
Cake Decorating Sugar Paste. Then
with your finger roll 2-3mm balls of Yellow
Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste.
Layout randomly on top of the Fuschia
Paste and roll together in the palm of
your hand to create a polka dot pattern
in the paste.
Grass Foliage
1. Use the craft gun with the
14 hole disc to create grass
foliage. Cut the ribbons of
paste to the desired length
and stick to the base of the
cake using a touch of edible
glue. Repeat as required
(You could also use grass
nozzle 84961).
2. Use the polka dot paste to create mushrooms, using sausages
and discs of paste, and then using the edible glue position on
the cake as desired. Repeat the above process until you have
enough model mushrooms.
Red Leaves
1.Use the craft gun with the euro hook
shaped disc with Red Culpitt Cake
Decorating Sugar.
2.Cut the paste into 20mm pieces and
pinch one end of each piece to make into
a point. Stick the leaves into the craters of
the cake as desired using edible glue.
Blue Marbled Rocks
1. Roll out cylinders of Light Blue Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar
Paste and Blue Culpitt Cake Decorating Sugar Paste. Place the
cylinders of paste next to each other alternating the light and
dark blue and kneed together to create a marbled effect. (See
Skill 2 on page 1 )
Textured Round Patches
1. Using your fingers flatten out a 20-25mm
coin of paste in your desired colour. Place
on the cake in the desired spot and use
the PME10 Flower/Leaf Scraper to texture. www.culpitt.com
Instructions
HOW TO
2. Once you have created the marbled paste cut into squared off
rock shapes and place as desired on the cake. Use some edible
glue to fix the rocks in place.
3. You can add some extra decoration by adding blue sparkling
sugar to the base of the rock. Use some edible glue to ensure the
sugar stays in place.
Slime Lake
1. Paint the inside of the lake
lightly with edible glue and
fill with a layer of green
sparkling sugar.
2. Add green and yellow food
colouring to piping gel until
it is a lime colour. Then fill the
lake with the piping gel to
create the slime lake effect.
Part Four - Planet
1. Cut a quarter of one side
off the 6 inch round cake to
create a flat base.
2. Use red, yellow and white
Culpitt Cake Decorating
Sugar Paste to create the
marbled effect paste (See
skill 2 on page 1). Cover the
6” cake in the marbled paste
(See Skill 1 on page 1).
3. Roll out Blue Culpitt Cake
Decorating Sugar Paste to approximately 6mm thickness. Lightly
dust the inside of the letters texture mat with icing sugar and
place the mat on top of the paste.
4. Roll over the paste with a rolling pin until the paste fills the inside
of the mat. Carefully peel off the mat and you will be left with
the letters imprinted in the paste, carefully cut round the desired
letters and using edible glue stick them to the face of the planet
cake. Part Three - Spaghetti Monsters
1. Using the craft gun and the 14 hole disc
(alternatively you can use the grass piping
nozzle) create strings of sugar paste in the
desired colour. You will need two lots of 6 inch
strands of paste.
5. Repeat this process with the number texture mat.
6. Use buttercream to fix the planet at the back of the
monster cake.
2. Pile up the paste into a mound and squeeze
together lightly to create the monster’s body.
3. To make the eyes roll white paste into three small balls and add
black dots of paste for the pupils. Then using edible glue fix the
eyes onto the body of the monsters.
