Social psychiatry is a branch of
psychiatry that focuses on the
"interpersonal" and cultural
context of mental disorder and
mental wellbeing.
Social psychiatrists help test
the cross-cultural use of
psychiatric diagnoses and
assessments of need or
disadvantage.
Social psychiatry has been
particularly associated with the
development of therapeutic
communities, and to
highlighting effect of
socioeconomic factors on
mental illness.
Social psychiatrists often focus
on rehabilitation in a social
context to facilitating the social
inclusion of people with mental
health problems.

Future Projects
We still have a lot of dreams.
Numerous perspectives are
rising at the horizon.
Most importantly we are hoping
to be able to provide the free of
charges Mashoura services
permanently.
We also hope to be able to establish and run a Community
Mental Health Facility where
up-to date integrated in-patient
and out-patient services will be
offered to children, women and
men. Although women represent 50% of the population,
and children under 15 years
34% of Egyptian population,
mental health facilities devoted
to them in Egypt are still very
rare and difficult to access because of social stigma and
lack of efficient referral system.
Psychosocial Trainings for
school staff on dealing with
violence, for professionals
working with orphans and
street children (with Samu

implemented.
