EP-51 PBBA PBBD PBBA THE PARKER - MORRISON DESCENDANTS PBBD Two daughters of Edward Parker and Jane Dawson on March 18, 1857 married two sons of Henry Morrison. Since each couple had a large family and many descendants, the two Parker-Morrison families are here separately grouped. In 1833 Henry Morrison with his wife and young son William emigrated from Bally Bay, County Monaghan, north Ireland, to Canada. The canal at Carillon was then being built, labourers were needed, and Henry worked there for three months. Then he went to the Gore where he spent a year before going permanently to the Glen nearby. There he bought half of lot number one in the fifth range. Several years afterwards he bought 200 acres more adjacent to his farm, in the fourth range of Gore. He and his sons cleared up the greater portion of the first and portion of the second lot by felling the trees and getting rid of the underbrush. He was a member of the Municipal Council a number of years, and of Captain James Smith’s company during the Fenian Raids of the 1860’s. Henry’s farm was about 1 YZ miles from Daniel Parker’s farm and not far from the Edward Parker and John Parker farms. Henry was born in Ireland about 1788, for he was 75 when he died on October 3, 1863. His widow died June 3, 1877. Henry Morrison must have married late in life, for he was about 44 when his first son, William, was born, September 25, 1832. He married Elizabeth Parker, PBBA. James, another son, married Jane Parker, PBBD. There were 2 other sons, and 3 daughters that grew up, making 7 children; one or more others evidently did not survive infancy or childhood. PBBA Elizabeth Parker was baptized as Eliza, the Anglican parish register of St. Andrews, QC, reading: “Eliza, daughter of Edward Parker and of Jane Dawson his wife born” November 15, 1831, and baptized February 22, 1832, “Jane Esther Smith Mary Ann Parker and Joseph Dawson being Sponsors.” All made their marks rather than sign their names. In a double wedding ceremony at the Lakefield Anglican Church on March 18, 1857, she married William Morrison while her sister, Jane, married his brother, James. William and James were sons of Henry Morrison and lsabelle Kennedy. It must have been a great community occasion, especially for the two families involved and for their many relatives. When William was old enough to do so, probably in 1853, he settled on one-half of lot one, range five in the Gore, and later bought half of the adjoining lot one, range six, in Wentworth. He resided there constantly on his well-stocked farm. He was justice of the peace for over 20 years. He was deputy master and master of the Orange Lodge. He was ensign of the Argenteuil Ranger, Co. #2, and went with them to the different places to which they were ordered during the Fenian Raids of the 1860’s. William died July 27, 1912 at Shrewsbury, QC, his home. Elizabeth also died there on October 9, 1914. There their 10 children were born, 1857-l 874, 8 of whom grew to adulthood. In order of birth they were Henry, an infant girl, Jane, William John, Isabella, Edward, Sarah, James, Joseph, and Richard. William, St-., died July 27, 1912. He was born September 25, 1832. Elizabeth and William are buried at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Shrewsbury, QC. -j’ PBBAA Henry Morrison, born December 11, 1857.
