Getting Started
It all starts with a vision.
At The Blue Ocean, we believe strongly in the power of vision.
A personal vision that guides your thoughts and dreams.
A company vision that unifies a group of individuals in a
collective purpose. Our mission is to provide your company
a set of tools that support you in turning your individual and
company vision into reality.
The Blue Ocean specializes in “strategic communication”
— the intertwining of marketing, web development,
learning/document management and return-on-investment
methodology to help you connect your company, customers,
and community.
We offer you a focused team of marketers, programmers, web
developers, graphic designers, administrators, consultants,
filmmakers and project managers specializing in this new
technology.
We are honored to be your partner and to assist in your future

The Home Page
The home page is your portal to the many powerful features
in your Blue Ocean web solution.
Since so much of the site is customizable, your company can
offer various features that may vary from this user guide.

The Home Page
Custom-branded to your logo and colors, the home page
features a traditional navigation bar, login, video player and
advertisements.
The ads will change periodically, so you’ll want to check back
frequently to discover the latest programming and company
news.

Login
Search
Depending on your needs, your site can be
set to display both public and private content.
Public content could be content you’d like your
customers or potential customers to see.
Once you log in, you’ll be able to search for
people, keywords, categories, wikis and more.
Since your site is role-based, a secure login will
allow you to control what private information
people see, including channels, learning paths,
newsfeeds and more.

The Home Page
Above the Nav bar, you’ll see a place to log in. Type in your username and
password and hit enter or click the blue arrow.
Your username most likely follows the format firstname.lastname and your
password is likely the last four digits of your social security number.
People Finder
Throughout the site, you’ll find
references to the People Finder
— a telephone, email and profile
directory.
If you have any trouble, you can click “Forgot Password” and we’ll email your
password to you, or you can email your system administrator for assistance.

Programming is viewed by going to a channel page.
Depending on your site, you’ll be able to view custom
company programming, as well as selections from The Blue
Ocean Network.

Channel Page
To see the channel guide, simply roll your mouse over the
navigation bar or click the tab. If you haven’t logged in yet,
you’ll notice you can only see public programming. Once you
log in, you’ll see all the channels available to you. Since the site
is role-based, you may see slightly different channels than your
coworkers.
On a channel page, you’ll notice
programming featuring films, resources and
documents.

Film
To watch a video, simply click the icon and
a popup player appears. In addition to the
normal features you’d expect to find in a video
player, you will also see an additional set of
tools along the bottom of the player.
Single Player
Series Player
If it’s a single video, the player will simply play that video complete with a
description, set of tools and resources.
If it’s a series player, you’ll still have access to the description and tools, but also a playlist on the right.
Depending on your site, tools include share,
favorite, test, guru and ask a question. You’ll
also be able to view any documents or
resources associated with the film.

Unlocking the vast knowledge available on
the web, each channel and video player offers
resources that allow you to further explore a
topic.
Documents
We’ll constantly work with your
company to research and provide
you with resources including wikis,
important books, articles, websites
and links to subject matter experts.
Your site also comes with a document
management system. Throughout the site,
documents can be linked and connected to
films and resources, and searched for key
terms.
If you’ve found a great resource or
read a good book, let us know and we
can share it with your entire company.

The Blue Ocean
Network
Depending on your company needs, The Blue
Ocean Network is available to suppliment your
current content. Often, companies need training on
employment law, safety, service, and other important
topics. We have that available for you!
A place for company leaders to cast a vision that leads us into the
future. This can include State of the Company addresses, quarterly
updates, and a visual look your company vision in action.
News
The news channel is the place for periodic stories on company
intiatives, policy changes, new products, services and innovations.
Filled with interviews and behind-the-scenes segments, the news
channel is a great way to recalibrate your vision and recognize
your employees.
Life
A channel focusing on personal development, ranging from
general success principles to a fun look at personality.

Here it is, the page just for you! We call it the “My Page” page
and it’s similar to other social networking sites like Facebook
or LinkedIn.

Your Profile
Your profile allows you to share your
information with colleagues, as well as links to
your personl social media pages.
Edit Profile
Uploading a Photo
The Blue Ocean allows you to edit certain aspects of your profile. You can add
a photo, change privacy settings, update personal information, change your
password and add social media links. Check with your company for information
you are able to edit.
Similar to uploading a photo to your favorite social media
site, your site allows you edit your photo. You have a couple
ways to accomplish this task.
Straight Upload: If you have a nice digital photo, simply
click “Choose Pic” and upload.
Facebook Option: Go to your Facebook page, click your
profile picture and drag it to your desktop. Next, go back
to The Blue Ocean site, edit profile area and click “Choose
Pic.” Find the Facebook photo you just downloaded to your
desktop and upload.
Send to Support: If you’d like The Blue Ocean
support team to upload your photo for you, email it to
support@theblueocean.tv

Learning Path
Employees get the latest company news, including
announcements, executive messages and recognition.
Receive various messages, notifications, and alerts in the
message area.
Employees can select coworkers to form groups for collaboration,
send messages, quick reference, and/or workgroups.
Employees travel through training programs, earning
certificates and points (more on page 36).

Every employee gets their own Story Book, tracking their career
from hire date, through recognition, milestones and more.
In your My Dashboard area, you’ll notice a variety of apps.
These will differ depending on your company needs and your
role in the company.

Learning
Becoming a learning organization is critical to thriving in
today’s marketplace. Your site has a very powerful learning
managment system built in to ensure everyone gets a quality
education.
Certificates and Degrees
Each role has a predefined path of both required and elective
certificaitons. Here, you can travel through your path, simply
clicking the link to watch the film, read the document, or
complete the project.
Honors
Once you complete a degree or certification, you can go to the
Honors sub tab and check and/or print your recognition.
Points
As you complete tasks, you will accumulate points. Points are
just a fun way to measure your progress and compete with your
coworkers.

Management
Managing expectations and holding people accountable is
the heart of good leadership. With The Blue Ocean’s Virtual
Assistants and Performance Management tools, you’ll be
able to monitor each of your staff’s progress, complete
evaluations, keep personal notes, and coach them along the
way.

Grade Book
The Grade Book app allows leaders to check on the
progress of their staff. To access an employee’s profile,
simply click their name and their profile appears in the
profile player.

Appreciation
Recognition is consistently listed by employees as something
they don’t get enough. With your site we’ve created
many ways to say Thank You in order to build a culture of
appreciation.
As described in the Performance Management and Learning
sections, we’ve created ways for leaders to reward employees
with certificaitons, public acknowledgement and messaging.

One app you’ll notice is the Thank You Store. This is where you
can publicly recognize someone or send them a thank you
card. And whenever you receive a card, you’ll get an email
notification and it will be stored in your Story Book.
