Consultant Nordic Business Council of the Philippines Nordic Business Council of the Philippines The meeting was chaired by Joona Selin, executive director of NBCP. Discussion points: Background for the meeting The ICT industry has been identified as a key sector for NBCP. This meeting was a call for action to regroup the committee and to align it with the newly established EPBN ICT committee. The invitee list included the member companies of NBCP operating in the ICT industry. EPBN position paper EU-­‐Philippines Business Network is drafting a position paper on ICT industry to be distributed later this year. The committee discussed about the topics, which are to be included in the paper. The members of the committee agreed that talent supply is and will be an issue for companies operating in the ICT field. The issue should be addressed by increasing the industry participation in teaching at schools and supplying real-­‐life cases to reduce the skill gap between the graduates and industry needs. Uffe Henrichsen agreed to draft a paper on the discussed university cooperation program. The program will first be an initiative of Nordic companies operating in the Philippines, but may be expanded later. It was also discussed that in order to engage companies to develop talents instead of only hiring senior managers, government should offer incentive model dependent on the participation. None of the committee members had first hand experience on LGU/PEZA issues, but the newly established Investment ombudsman team was identified as the governmental agency, which should address these issues. ICT HR Study A year ago, NBCP conducted an ICT HR study to support the decision making of directors in ICT industry. Members of the committee agreed that study was useful and should be conducted and published again already during this calendar year to help budgeting for next year. It was decided that the study should also be opened to other companies than only Nordic to collect a bigger sample. In the next EPBN ICT committee meeting, NBCP will invite members of the committee to participate in the study. Election of co-­‐chairs Anders Sønderskov Nielsen and Uffe Henrichsen were elected as co-­‐chairs for the committee. Next meeting will be held at the NNIT office on Tuesday, December 2 at 8.30 AM.
