Writers Read Hosts Bich
Minh Nguyen March 11
Acclaimed author Bich Minh
Nguyen will read and discuss
her work at College of DuPage on
Monday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in
HSC 1234.This free event, cosponsored by the Creative
Writing committee and the Asian
Studies committee, is part COD’s
“Writer's Read” series, which
brings authors to COD for
readings and discussions.
Nguyen's memoir Stealing
Buddha's Dinner, released in 2007, received the PEN/Jerard Award
from the PEN American Center and was a Chicago Tribune Best
Book of 2007, a Kiriyama Prize Notable Book, and an Asian
American Literature Award finalist. Her novel Short Girls was
released in 2009 and won an American Book Award in fiction and
named a Best Book of the Year by Library Journal. Read More

COD Theater Program
Spotlights Student Success
A large number of former COD theater
students have recently captured career
success in a variety of roles and venues
locally and nationwide. Naperville
native Matt Armstrong (left) attended
College of DuPage after securing a John
Belushi Memorial Scholarship, which he
received for two consecutive years. “I
think College of DuPage had a better
theater department than I would find at any regular four-year

to…Physics students
Alyssa Bowes of
Glen Ellyn and Jaime
Bryant of Woodridge
who were recently
invited to attend the
Conference on
Undergraduate Women in Physics held at the University of
Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Bowes and Bryant were the
only two community college students among the more than
170 attendees at the sixth annual event. Activities included
a career panel, a graduate student panel and an
undergraduate research panel. Read More

ACT-SO Competition
at COD March 16
College of DuPage will host
the annual Afro-Academic,
Cultural, Technical and
Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO)
on Saturday, March 16, from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Services Center and the
Student Resource Center, Room 2000. Faculty, staff and
community members are invited to view the Performing Arts
(excluding playwriting), Filmmaking and Entrepreneurship
categories as they are being judged. The Visual Arts and
Science projects are also open to the public after 2 p.m.

The COD Office of Continuing Education/Extended Learning will
host “Business Strategies for the New Economy: Ways to Mitigate
Your Risk,” on Thursday, March 21, from 8 a.m. to noon, in the
Homeland Security Education Center. This free event features two
tracks – one geared toward people who own established businesses
