Self-Evaluation Report
The school self-evaluation report has been placed on the College website and is available for
parents to have a look at. This report measures the success of the College over the past four
years; it also includes some interesting responses from focus groups and some key data sets. It
is an extremely positive story for the school community and one that we are rightly proud of.
Review Day
Monday of this week was the School Review Day. On this day, a panel consisting of myself, an
outside reviewer, Mike Kerin, and two peer reviewers, Judy Crowe from Melbourne Girls
College and Clare Entwisle from Kew High School, met with key members of staff to discuss the
performance of the College over the past four years. The aforementioned Self-Evaluation
Report forms a cornerstone of this Review Day.
As a result of this process, the College moves to the development of a new School Strategic
Plan in Term 4. This School Strategic Plan will provide direction for the School for the next four
years.
Student-Free Curriculum Day September 2nd.
A student-free Curriculum Day is scheduled for the 2nd of September. The day will be devoted to
curriculum planning, and some staff-wide professional development with regard to mindfulness
training as a feature of our Home Group program.

Solar Panels Donations
On behalf of the student leadership team, I would like to thank parents for their overwhelming generosity during
the Student Leadership Council's (SLC) fundraising drive for the purchase and installation of solar panels at the
School. Thanks to your donations, just under $4000 has been raised so far by the SLC which is tremendous. PHSC
is committed to sustainability and a cleaner, brighter future.
I would like to acknowledge the work of the SLC team for their efforts in fundraising; in particular, Rosie Grech and
Gladys Yun who assisted in the collection of funds.
Donations can still be made at the General Office, over the phone or in person.
If there are any specific questions about the purchase or installation of panels, these should be directed towards
Principal John Goodman.
Again, thanks :)

Spotted Mallard
Concert 7pm
TUESDAY 26th AUGUST
The Spotted Mallard, on Sydney Road Brunswick, is
an excellent venue for our contemporary music
concert, providing an outstanding performance space,
meals and beverages. It does not, however, have
wheelchair access. We have gone to great lengths to find a more suitable venue, with disabled
access, and will continue to do so but for now we find ourselves back at The Spotted Mallard,
as they have once again generously offered their premises.
We will also be having a Showcase Concert at 75 On Reid, Reid Street North Fitzroy, on Wednesday 22nd
October; more details including ticket purchase information, will be available soon
Showcasing jazz and contemporary ensembles including the Stage
Band, CJE, Vocal Groups, Rhapsody, The Used Car Horns and more.
Bookings: samanda@spottedmallard.com
Meals available and delicious.

Flemington Bicycle Recycle Program – Bikes for Those Who Need Them
Flemington Primary School has been running a program that gives kids access to bicycles by
recycling unused bikes.
See the Ride On article at http://rideons.wordpress.com/2014/08/11/reuse-and-recycle-your-bike/
It works this way:
1.
Families donate unwanted bikes in good condition (the ones that the kids have grown too big for)
2.
Children in need of a bike leave their name at the Flemington Primary School Bike Shed
3.
School parents and students fix the bikes and, when they are assessed as roadworthy, give them to the children in
need who match the bike characteristics (size, m/f, etc.)
4.
Adult bikes are also welcome and go to the Red Cross Wheel Power for Refugees Program:
http://www.redcross.org.au/wheel-power.aspx
5.
We also fix currently used bikes for a gold coin donation and accept donations of helmets, locks and other essential
equipment.
The program has been a roaring success with over eighty bikes recycled but we’ve hit a problem: there
are not enough larger kids’ bikes to suit grade 5/6 students. We think it’s because these students (and
families) have moved on to high school. The bikes might be out there but in the high school community.
So, we are asking Princes Hill Secondary College and other local high schools if they want to get
involved in the program. If you have an unused bike in the shed bring it to us on Fridays before and
after school at the Bike Shed at Flemington Primary. Or, just drop in to say hello and perhaps help.
We’d love Princes Hill SC to be involved.
