Premium Antifouling Solutions Exceptional quality for superior, professional results 3258BR- Antifouling Brochure-AP:US a 15/12/10 10:16 Page 3 Premium Antifouling Solutions Antifouling is possibly one of the most common and important painting jobs carried out by boatyards. As a pioneer in the development of antifouling technology, International Paint leads the way, offering innovative, effective and long-lasting antifouling solutions that also help minimise environmental impact. Polishing Micron® Extra – superb protection against all types of fouling; in all types of waters, on all types of boats** The following selection of premium antifouling solutions use the latest technology to deliver effective fouling protection and maximised results. With optimum application properties and minimal maintenance requirements, they also help yards to reduce their total project time, labour costs and improve their overall margin potential. Self Polishing Copolymer (SPC) Micron® 66 – the ultimate performanceleading antifouling solution I With SPC technology and 24/7 biocide release, Micron 66 continually self-polishes, so hulls become smoother both in use and during prolonged stationary periods I A continuously smooth, low friction hull with limited paint build-up helps to minimise drag, improve speed and fuel efficiency and significantly save fuel costs I Micron 66 provides outstanding performance, so yards can be assured of customer satisfaction and repeat business I Delivers non-stop performance, even in the harshest fouling environments I SPC technology has worldwide recognition and a proven track record on thousands of commercial vessels globally I Controlled polishing reduces build-up and therefore labour and re-application I Uses less copper more efficiently in comparison to old fashioned, high copper hard antifouling paints to deliver optimum performance I Haul and re-launch is possible without repainting thus helping yards save maintenance time and costs Micron – the supreme standard What is Biolux®? Developed exclusively by International Paint, Biolux and the award winning Biolux SPC (Self Polishing Copolymer) technologies are unique systems consisting of organic boosting biocides that are incorporated in a highly effective controlled release film. It is well-known that there is a direct correlation between hull surface roughness and power/fuel requirements. Hulls generally get rougher over time and studies have shown that the average increase in hull surface roughness for traditional antifouling is double that of SPC technology 1. SPC technology, such as Micron 66, can therefore considerably reduce hull surface roughness. In addition, a hull with a rough surface is also widely regarded as having the same effect on fuel consumption (and/or loss of speed) to that of rough weather conditions – a renowned significant contributor to yacht fuel bills. The graph shows the increase in fuel consumption over time for two identical vessels; one coated with SPC antifouling and the other with traditional ablative antifouling. The fuel consumption of the SPC antifouling is significantly lower than the traditional antifouling, resulting in significant fuel cost savings. Townsin, R.L., Byrne, D., Svensen, T.E. and Milne, A. “Fuel Economy due to Improvements in Ships’ Hull Surface Condition 1976-1986”, International Shipbuilding Progress, 33, (383), July 1986. Boosted antifouling performance delivers effective slime prevention and protection in all waters, on all boats** ** Unsuitable for aluminium Smoother hulls save fuel costs 1 I Over the years, the Micron brand has become synonymous with quality and has earned a solid reputation among the boating community worldwide. When yards offer this well-known brand to their customers, they offer a standard that is second to none. All Micron products are backed by the International Paint warranty and technical service and support, so yards and owners alike can be assured of total quality and total peace of mind. Slow Polishing Trilux® 33 – the brightly coloured, high performance antifouling that is suitable for all traditional boat substrates, including aluminium I The fantastic fresh palette of four bright colours includes an incredible bright white which is also superb for waterline stripes I Prevents slime to deliver fantastic antifouling performance and protection I Ideal for all types of substrate including primed aluminium, Trilux 33 is also excellent for use on fibreglass, wood and steel and for many types of boats including fast and active I Trilux 33 has worldwide recognition among aluminium yacht builders and repair yards Technology Key Self Polishing – Polishes continuously, releasing biocide even when vessel is stationary – minimal leach layer Polishing – Biocide is released as the paint film wears away when the boat is in movement – the leach layer increases in stationary conditions Slow Polishing – Biocide is released from the paint film which remains intact – the leach layer grows continuously International Paint offers a variety of solutions to meet most budgets and antifouling performance requirements.
