Executive Message I believe the local ICT training sector is in a mature state with a number of players dominating the market! The traditional training market is under pressure and it is crucial that the industry reinvent itself in line with technology trends worldwide. The way people learn is changing rapidly, in a digital world with the millennial seriously entering the market. We predict that content will over time become free and available on all platforms from mobile devices including smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops. Blended learning is a reality that will have to be developed in solutions that will fulfill the needs of both individuals and companies. The local ICT training sector will have to reinvent itself in the short term to remain relevant in the market, otherwise they will perish as we have seen with a number of players in the past few years. We have entered the new age of learning. The new age of learning is learner centric, which means we develop solutions that identify a person’s digital learning identity. We combine the industries’ technological skill requirements with the individual’s learning identity and develop training and development interventions that will satisfy the needs of both! The key for us lies not in theoretical training interventions but dynamic lab interventions blended with the individual’s digital learning identity. Our role to stay relevant in the ICT training industry is to create dynamic skills experiences for ICT professionals that is validated through international certification and hands on labs.” In South Africa we have two challenges. The first challenge lies in developing foundational skills across the industry targeting computer literacy in schools, communities, the employed and unemployed. We need every South African to be computer literate. The second challenge lies in the huge shortage of skills in the 300 to 500 skills levels in ICT. “The deployment of new technology is dependent on higher level skills sets. Companies are holding back on deployment of new technology not only based on limited and expensive band width but the lack of high-end skills. Even though universities, colleges and other educational providers are pushing sufficient numbers of trained up individuals they are not up-skilled to fill the gap in the market! Our aim is to be the choice provider of expert skills to stay relevant in a dynamic developing environment. CTU has strategically partnered with various vendors and consulting houses to bring our clients top of the range training. We are very proud of our offerings and solutions. CTU Training Solutions was established in 1987 and specializes in skills development training across various fields in the ICT industry. CTU, as a training provider in the ICT training and development market, started as a small training centre with only two lecture rooms; 25 years later, it now employs over 220 staff and has a national footprint of 14 locations nationwide. CTU is an accredited ICT Training Institution. In line with industry requirements, CTU Training Solutions (PTY) Ltd is fully accredited by the MICT SETA (ACC/2006/07/186) through the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). CTU Training Solutions offers full time, part time and corporate IT, design and business studies. At CTU, we don’t sell programmes without certifications (national and/ or international). This is what differentiates us from most of our competitors. CTU is one of the largest testing partners in EMEA (Middle East and Africa), doing an annual average of 11 000 exams at our 15 test centres. Our dedicated test centres are proctored by professional certified test centre administrators. Our accreditations assure companies and clients that CTU Training Solutions operates on a sound financial basis, has an approved program of study, qualified instructors, adequate facilities and equipment, and approved recruitment and admissions policies. It also means that all learners can be assured of a quality learning and assessment experience and that the credits and qualifications they achieve through these services will be nationally, (and could be internationally) recognised. - CEO, Ronald Meeske ctusucceed.co.za Contents Executive Message CTU Success Stories ...................................................................................... 3 Our Solution Areas ........................................................................................ 1. They generally lack the necessary skills and equipment to present these programs. About 25 of South Africa’s 50 Public FET’s are found in the rural areas. CTU developed an empowerment model to address the lack of capacity and skills to empower public FET’s to present skills based from the SETAs and add industry standard international certifications to increase the employability of students who graduate, compiled on the assumption that private and public sector partnerships are essential to provide sustainable solutions to South African problems. In partnership with Microsoft and MICT SETA, CTU rolled out a learnership for a number of students in Mthatha, one of our first model based projects to be implemented for the development of FET colleges in rural areas within South Africa. This learnership was a great example of public and private companies working together to further develop and sustain skills in rural areas. Visit the CTU YouTube (1987ctu) channel to watch how this story made a difference! CTU delivered a full human resource development solution to a Financial Institution which turned into a great success where we executed our solutions and helped the Financial Institution reach their company’s bottom line and ICT employment goals and inspired future internal employee development. Visit www.ctusucceed.co.za for more CTU success stories CTU was awarded the Microsoft Learning Partner of the Year 2012. By winning this award it is clear that Microsoft recognizes CTU as a strategic partner that has made an acknowledging contribution in the ICT learning field. CTU aims to drive other Microsoft technologies and prepare our learners in the use of these technologies. As a result of our continuous contribution and engagement with Microsoft in South Africa, CTU was awarded the 2013 Microsoft Country Partner of the Year, and we believe that this is a great achievement for a learning partner in the Microsoft ecosystem. CTU was selected as one of the 2012 IT Training Companies watch list based on our unique approach to IT training solutions “The IT Training Companies Watch List gives buyers a chance to see some of the smaller companies that can provide great services for their clients,” said Ken Taylor, Chief Operating Officer of Training Industry, Inc. “More than half of these companies are new to our Watch List and have demonstrated their value to the market.” CTU has proven to be very effective with their offering. We have dealt with CTU for prospect learnership opportunities and short courses, and all the interaction we have had was very professional and efficient. In comparison with other institutes alike, CTU have always kept a close relationship, and have proven to be at the front of industry changes by communicating with us through workshops. The booking process is very simple, and from our dealings, CTU have been very accommodating, and the staff have been very friendly and approachable. Zakiya Chothia Training Academy Team Manager MWEB Business Neliswa Sibinda studied IT Systems Support at CTU Roodepoort campus in 2007. Neliswa now works at the Microsoft MTC (Microsoft Technology Centre) as a technical administrator. This has allowed Microsoft to invite customers to demo Microsoft products in an IT environment that works. Together these solution areas provide the training, skills and development of people to solve challenges arising from the South African IT training and development trends including lack of skills, demand for certified professionals, technology changes and job creation. The inter connectedness of the solution areas enable CTU to offer a holistic approach to providing a wide range of products and services (short to long term) to help your business reach its bottom line and improve its human capital. CTU Career Students “The IT industry as a whole is moving toward the mobile/social/cloud/big data world of the 3rd Platform much more quickly than many realize: from 2013 through 2020, these technologies will drive around 90% of all the growth in the IT market,” said Frank Gens, Senior Vice President and Chief Analyst at IDC. “Companies that are not putting 80% or more of their competitive energy into this new market will be trapped in the legacy portion of the market, growing even slower than global GDP.” The CTU Career Campus a division of CTU Training Solutions (Pty) Ltd, offers a variety of 1 to 3 year programmes with National Qualifications and International Certifications. Our certified facilitator-led programmes are developed and updated regularly according to new technological developments and market trends. Our “Workplace experience programme“ enables learners to become familiar with the corporate/ working environment through various field trips and internship programmes hosted by participating corporate clients. Internships Investing in South Africa’s youth and paying particular attention to their skills development is key to the country’s future economic growth. The skills shortage in South Africa has been identified as one of the main impediments to reaching the stated economic growth targets of the Government. The South African Qualifications Authority Act (No. 58 of 1995) was passed into law in October 1995. The Act prescribed the establishment of, amongst others, the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and the Sectoral Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). An Internship is a programme designed to give university and technikon graduates an opportunity to extend their academic qualifications with structured workplace exposure and specialised training. The MICT SETA utilizes the concept of internships to fast track high level skills, to offer needed work experience to unemployed graduates and to empower graduates with practical knowledge commensurate with their qualification. CTU provides companies and students the opportunity to develop unemployed youth or graduates through CTU accredited ICT programmes. Learnerships Skills development is not just about training people for employment; it must also empower people to create opportunities to make a living for themselves. Low levels of education and training, as well as the lack of standardised, appropriate and accredited training, are key constraints to enabling people to create their own opportunities. A learnership is a work-based route to a qualification. It is a workplace education and training programme comprising of both structured practical workplace (on-thejob) experience and structured theoretical training. The duration of a learnership is approximately twelve months, and results in a full national qualification. CTU has over 22 Registered ICT Learnerships up to NQF Level 5 and 6. CTU has completed many successful learnerships with several organisations but we want to share one of the most inspiring projects we ran in 2012/2013, the Mthatha Leanership, follow this url for the video footage: http://youtu.be/t4BUfIqtl4k 4 5 6 CTU Recruitment No matter how much you invest in new equipment or new systems, the key to your success lies in the attitudes, outlook, skills and support of your employees. It’s your employees who will help you respond to the pressures of an ever changing world and market and will in essence deliver the benefits you seek and help you reach your business goals. The CTU Recruits division offers a value added service to our corporate clients and graduates. We focus on finding our students sought after career opportunities once they have completed their full qualifications and certifications. We provide a superior selection from our graduate database to employers, allowing them to appoint only those individuals with required technical skills, as well as ensuring a culture fit to their corporate environments better known as a superior selection process. Collaboration To enable CTU to deliver augmented services to its clients, we have collaborated with like minded companies that deliver solutions to companies, based on certification, life long learning and quality education. Collaboration allows CTU to deliver services and consultative solutions to clients, allowing the client to concentrate on its core business, whilst HRD Solutions are implemented through CTU and its partners. The partnerships also allow CTU to deliver to the market solutions previously not possible, i.e. Red Hat Learnerships, Cisco Learnerships nationally. One example of these collaborations would be that of Obsidian Systems. “Obsidian is very excited about our partnership with CTU Training Solutions, as it takes Obsidian’s 14 year tenure as a Red Hat Certified Training partner to the next level; providing the same level of training and skills and making it available to the many locations that CTU Training Solutions offer. CTU Training Solutions also brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in building ICT skills in South Africa and with the new partnerships now have added open source offerings” says Muggie van Staden, Managing Director for Obsidian Systems. Another example would be Microsoft. According to Microsoft, CTU Training Solutions continues to meet and exceed their shared customers’ business needs through our commitment, passion, and focus on execution excellence. Learning Solutions As Cloud and BYOD services become more previlant, individuals and corporate companies need to be able to, cost effectively, deliver skills training in various locations at the same time. Learning Solutions encompass the use of Technology led training, Web based training and blended learning into various areas, both locally and into Africa. Through collaboration, highly sought after skills can be delivered simultaneously in various locations through web based delivery platforms. Consulting Services CTU has experienced Skills Development Facilitators who can assist with the analysis of previous (WSP) Workplace Skills Plans. CTU is in the ideal position to assist clients with the analysis, planning and implementation of their Work Skills Plans as our strategic knowledge and training products are in line with the needs of the Skills Development Strategy of South Africa. The issue of skills has been at the forefront of every major economic debate and the shortage, demand or oversupply of skills has become one of government’s main concerns. The Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) lies at the heart of this issue as it aims to identify and develop critical skills in the workplace. CTU can assist clients with technology planning, competency attainment, SATV and CLC redemption, cross skilling, certification learning paths and because of the consultative approach, CTU can also assists clients with various HR and Learning interventions and this allows businesses to focus on their core business whilst CTU manages the skills development facet of the business. 7 CTU Solutions Directory Adobe Acrobat Illustrator InDesign Photoshop Flash After Effects Dreamweaver C - Route - Switch - Tshoot CIW E-Commerce Specialist Internet Business Associate Network Technology Associate Site development Associate Web Design Specialist CompTIA A+ Network+ Cloud Essentials CTT+ Linux+ Security+ Server+ Storage+ Strata IT Security D 8 End User Computing Computer Literacy and Windows ITIL Foundation H CBP Business Communication Business Etiquette Business Management Computer Technology Customer Service Leadership Project Management Sales Cisco CCENT CCNA CCNP EC Council Certified Secure Computer User Certified Security Analyst Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Network Security Administrator Draughting and Technical Sales 3D Studio Max AutoCAD 2012 3D Drawing & Modelling AutoCAD 2012 Advanced AutoCAD 2012 Essentials AutoDesk Inventor Advanced AutoDesk Inventor Essentials AutoDesk 2012 Revit Architecture HP ATA Connected Devices ATA Networks ATA Servers and Storage I Individual Programming Tracks C# C++ HTML5 Introduction to HTML5 Introduction to Programming JAVA Development VB.Net M Microsoft - MCSA SQL Server 2012 Windows 7 Windows 8 Windows Server 2008 Windows Server 2012 - MCSD Web Applications Windows Store Apps Using C# Windows Store Apps Using HTML5 Lifecycle Management - MCSE Business Intelligence Communication Data Platform Desktop Infrastructure Messaging Private Cloud Server Infrastructure SharePoint Microsoft Office 2010/2013 Basic to Advanced Visio Office 365 Access Microsoft Office 2010/2013 continued Excel Outlook PowerPoint Project SharePoint Word ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
