Dr. Timothy Kilmartin , FCPodS PhD Consultant Podiatric Surgeon Tim is in private practice at Hillsborough Private Clinic, Co. Down and North West Independent
Hospital, Ballykelly, Co. Derry. He also works for the UK NHS three days a week in Ilkeston
Hospital, Derbyshire. Tim qualified from the Birmingham School of Podiatry in 1985. In 1988
Tim commenced a PhD study of the treatment of children’s bunions at Nottingham University
Medical School, Department of Orthopaedics. He completed his Fellowship in Poditric Surgery
in 1991. After a short period working as a Lecturer at the Northampton School of Podiatry, Tim
returned to the NHS as a Podiatric Surgeon in 1994 working for Doncaster, Chesterfield and St
Batholomews before being appointed Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in Nottingham and nearby
Ilkeston in 1997. He has since performed over 14,000 foot operations. His interest in research
has continued throughout his career with now over 60 published articles on foot surgery and
the treatment of various foot conditions.
Ms. Claire O’Kane, FCPodS
Consultant Podiatric Surgeon Claire works in private Practice in Rathmines Clinic, Dublin and Hillsborough Private Clinic, Co.
Down. Claire qualified as a podiatrist from the Northern Ireland School of Podiatric Medicine in
1991. She worked in private practice from 1991 to 2000 and from 1993 to 1999 she also worked
as a clinical supervisor and lecturer at the school of podiatric medicine in Queen’s University
Belfast. Claire began her surgical training in April 1998 spending the first year of her training at
Lewisham General hospital London and the second year at Ilkeston Hospital near Nottingham.
Claire qualified as a podiatric surgeon in April 2000 and took up a position at Ilkeston hospital
as a specialist registrar. She got her certificate of completion of surgical training in April 2003
and became a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in October 2003 at Ilkeston Hospital. Claire is also
a tutor for the faculty of Podiatric Surgery. To date she has published a number of studies on
lesser metatarsal and lesser digit surgery, the rotation scarf osteotomy for hallux valgus and
lesser digit amputation.
Dr. Farina Hashmi
BSc(Hons) Chemistry, BSc (Hons) Podiatry,
PhD Biochemsitry, FCPodMed
Researcher at the University of Salford
Farina Hashmi graduated from Manchester Polytechnic in 1991 with a BSc Honours in Chemistry.
After qualifying as a podiatrist from the London Foot Hospital in 1997 she worked within the
NHS Podiatry Service and University College London for several years. She completed her
PhD in Biochemistry in 2004 at the Department of Medicine, University College London. She
currently holds a position at the Centre for Health Sciences Research at the University of Salford.
Her research interests include dermatology of the lower limb and the biomechanics of foot skin.
She also co-ordinates lower limb skin research within the Centre at the University of Salford.
Farina has published in international academic journals and has contributed to national and
international conferences. She is a reviewer for several academic journals and grant funding
bodies and is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research (UK). She also
sits on several research steering groups and national committees and is the Vice Chair of the
Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Research and Development Committee. Farina is also a
Fellow of the Faculty of Medicine for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, UK.
Dr. Catherine Kelly
Consultant Oncologist Mater Misercordiae University Hospital, Ireland Dr. Catherine M. Kelly is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Mater Misericordiae University
Hospital, Dublin and Clinical Lecturer at University College Dublin, Ireland. She received her
Medical Degree from the Royal College of Surgeon’s in Ireland in 2000, and completed Internal
Medicine training at The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. She began her training in Medical
Oncology at The Royal Marsden, followed by Specialist training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital
London, UK and The Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin. Dr Kelly completed a Breast Cancer
Fellowship at Toronto-Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Center, Ontario, Canada and a Masters
Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, School of Health Policy,
Management and Evaluation. She was the Susan G. Komen Interdisciplinary Breast Cancer
Fellow at The University of Texas, M.D Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, where she continued
clinical work and research. She has received numerous awards for research in cancer. She is a
member of the Irish Collaborative Oncology Research Group (ICORG), Innovators in Cancer
UK research group and continues to actively collaborate with colleagues in the UK, US, and
Canada.
Dr. Tamasine Grimes Associate Professor In Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences,
TCD Pharmacist in the Pharmacy department, Tallaght Hospital Dr Tamasine Grimes graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 1998 and registered as a
member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland in 1999. Over the past decade, Tamasine
has experience working as a clinical pharmacist in the hospital and community sectors and
has been involved in the education and continuing professional development of a variety of
students and professionals involved in medicines management. Tamasine completed the
M.Sc. in Hospital Pharmacy, TCD, in 2002 and her PhD in Medication Safety, Royal College
of Surgeons in Ireland, in 2009. At present, Tamasine works half-time in the Pharmacy
Department, Tallaght Hospital, and half-time as Associate Professor in Practice of Pharmacy in
the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, TCD. Her work, teaching and research
all have a strong focus on patient safety. Dr. Khaled Abdullah MB BCh BAO, FFRRCSI
Consultant Interventional Radiologist,
Zayed Military Hospital Abu Dhabi
Is currently an Interventional Radiologist in Zayed Military Hospital Abu Dhabi, UAE. He received
his Medical Degree from the Royal College of Surgeon’s in Ireland in 2000, and completed
his Specialist Registrar Training at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. He was awarded his
Fellowship of the Faculty of Radiology of The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in May 2005.
He has published research papers in several high impact journals
