Job Details and Specification ADDITIONAL LEARNING NEEDS COORDINATOR Permanent position 0.5 Main Pay Scale To commence September 2013 (sooner if possible) Closing date for applicants: Mon 18th March The Governing Body wish to appoint a suitably qualified (QTS), knowledgeable, communicator to develop the quality of individual provision and fair access to learning of all children with Additional Learning Needs. Core Purpose of the Post The ALNCo, with the support of the Headteacher, Senior Management Team and governing body, takes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of provision made by the school for pupils with ALN (inclusive of the more able/ MAT pupils) and provides professional guidance in the area of ALN in order to secure high quality teaching and the effective use of resources to bring about improved standards of achievement of all pupils. The ALNCo will not have the additional commitments of a class teacher. Job Spec Summary • Coordinate ALN throughout school from early identification to statement • Liaise with teaching staff to assist in the production of IEPs • Monitor the progress of ALN children • Evaluate effectiveness of IEP targets • Support children in class or through group/ individual sessions/ intervention • Advise teaching and support staff in their approaches with ALN pupils • Monitor consistency throughout the school in relation to ALN provision • Coordinate the provision for more able and talented learners • Arrange review meetings with other professional bodies • Communicate with parents regularly about child development needs • Maintain organised documentation and data of all children on ALN register • To work effectively as part of a team • Be able to attend weekly staff meetings/ training Strategic Direction of ALN Provision • • • • Ensure effective systems of communication including feedback about pupil’s learning to inform future planning Monitoring the quality of ALN support by establishing effective systems to identify and meet the needs of pupils whilst ensuring that the systems are coordinated, evaluated and regularly reviewed. Ensure that the objectives of the ALN policy are reflected in the school improvement plan. Liaise with and coordinate the contribution of external agencies Up-to-date knowledge of National and local initiatives which may impact upon policy and practice. Teaching and learning • • • • • • • • • Influencing quality teaching and effective learning to promote aspects of inclusive teaching Leading INSET where appropriate, this may include working parties Opportunities for observation of colleagues/visits to other schools in order to share best practice. Collect and interpret specialist assessment data gathered on pupils and use to inform practice. To work with pupils, subject leaders and class teachers to ensure realistic expectations of behaviour and achievement is set for ALN pupils Support developments and initiatives to improve standards in literacy and numeracy as well as access to the wider curriculum Overseeing and monitoring the quality of IEPs, IEBPs, PSPs and maintaining detailed information for subsequent meetings with parents Develop systems for colleagues to monitor and record progress made by pupils with ALN towards the achievement of targets set in IEPs Supporting the Headteacher in meeting statutory responsibilities for ALN statements and their Annual Review. Coordinating Staff • • • • • Encourage all staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities Identifying training opportunities for staff and organising/coordinating INSET to be delivered by other professionals in relation to ALN Disseminate procedural information such as recommendations of the code of practice, Flintshire guidance, or the schools own ALN policy Ensure the establishment of opportunities for Teaching Assistants and A.S.W’s to support the needs, progress and targets of pupils with learning difficulties Provide regular information to the Headteacher, governing body on the evaluation of the effectiveness of provision for pupils with ALN, to inform decision-making and policy review. Efficient and Effective Deployment of Staff and Resources • • • Liaise with Headteacher/SMT relating to resource requirements, the deployment of staff and timetabling in relation to the support of ALN In support of the SMT, organise and coordinate the work of colleagues to ensure appropriate deployment of ALN learning resources including ICT Maintain existing resources and explore opportunities to develop or incorporate new resources from the wide range available within and externally to the school. Additional Requirements • • • • • • The ALNCo role will involve elements of class teaching to cover timetabled PPA and occasional short-term staff illness that are unscheduled. Coordination of More Able and Talented provision. Occasional, timetabled group sessions, eg Read, Write Inc or Social Skills Coordination of Catch-Up Programme in KS2, in conjunction with Literacy Coordinator. To play a key role in the organisation of the Read, Write Inc Programme including assessment of pupils, re-grouping and progress monitoring. To remain flexible to evolve as the school develops over the coming years. The ALNCo Role could develop significantly enough to allow increased teaching commitment.
