Our company, along with 90% of the country, is experiencing the same issues. We can narrow and reduce the gaps of sales and profit decline by MANAGING OUR BUSINESS EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. One guest at a time, one transaction, one person doing their job correctly, one smile, one thank you. New Hyde Park Panera Bread hosted a terrific girl scout tour and both the children and their parents could have not have been more grateful. Way to WOW your community! pictured below ▼ Our guests have a lot of choices as to where they choose to eat. Their experience at one of our restaurants will determine if they will visit us again. If we do not deliver them a WOW experience they will simply choose another restaurant to dine in. We must build guest loyalty. How can we do this? Deliver and execute the BASICS. You have heard me say this over and over again, but I believe if we deliver the basics to our guests they will visit and choose us more frequently over our competitors. Our guests want 5 things: Care Package For Applebee’s Hillsborough Soldier Exceeds Expectations 1. Warm greetings and friendly service throughout their meal 2. Quality food and beverage the way they ordered it (hot food hot) 3. Timing: accurate wait, quick meal delivery, quick payment 4. Clean facilities 5. Feel appreciated for their business and money spent Back in November, Matthew Coates, server at Hillsborough Applebee’s, was deployed overseas. Bill Van Houten, General Manager of Hillsborough, is extremely proud of Matt and the person he has become. Bill wanted to show his support for Matt and his fellow soldiers and decided to put together a care package. Bill and the Doherty office staff were overwhelmed and very pleased with how many things were collected. A special thanks to all of Jim Pelliciari’s district for collecting items for Matt! pictured above ▲ Successful delivery in our restaurants is made of dozens of basics that nobody notices…until you don’t do them. I can sit here and list hundreds of basics but will give you my top 10. 1. Hire for attitude 2. Proper training by the right trainers 3. Strict compliance to recipes, specs and operational procedures. Never deviate 4. Remembering always that our guest is the boss, period! They want consistency (the list above) 5. Standards (uniforms, steps of service, plate presentation, organization of restaurant) 6. Sanitation (restrooms, outside landscaping, walk-ins, back docks, employee restrooms, your office) 7. Great looking and tasting food 8. Consistency, delivering it over and over and over again 9. Be fair 10. A ‘Thank You’ goes a long way! Catch someone doing it right Lastly, I can not stress the next point enough and that is IT’S GOT TO COME FROM YOUR HEART to want to be the best, to consistently deliver, to ‘WOW Every Guest, Every Time’…you can’t teach that! Army Captain Greg Backer was coming home on leave to surprise his family for Thanksgiving. Amanda was asked if she could help arrange a dinner for Captain Backer and his family, and if she could have News Channel 12 film the event. Needless to say, she jumped at the opportunity to help. Captain Backer arrived, but it was difficult getting his parents to come to the restaurant. Finally, the members of the American Legion came up with a plan to bring his parents in and they went to his parent’s house to get them. When Ron from the American Legion arrived at Captain Backer’s parent’s house, he found out that his mother was not home, but after some calls they got in touch with her and arranged for her to meet them at the restaurant. Captain Backer was getting very nervous that this was not going to work out and was relieved once he heard his parents were on their way. While waiting for his parents to arrive at the restaurant, the Paramus team had a chance to talk to Captain Backer, who said he chose Paramus Applebee’s because it is his parent’s favorite restaurant and they loved coming there. Captain Backer waited in the office until his parents arrived and were sat at a table. The staff put on their Veterans Day t-shirts and followed Captain Backer as he delivered some boneless wings to his parent’s table. As Captain Backer walked towards the table, the team had Lee Greenwood’s song, “God Bless the U.S.A.” playing, which just so happened to be Captain Backer and his mother’s favorite song. When Captain Backer arrived at his parent’s table they were shocked and it took a few moments for it to even register with them that their son was standing in front of them. His mother and father both started crying and hugging their son, and guests in the restaurant started applauding. As Captain Backer was talking to his family a number of guests came up to him to thank him. Children also expressed their thanks and asked to take a picture with him. Captain Backer’s parents then contacted his twin brother and had him come to the restaurant and Captain Backer was able to surprise him as well. Once the entire family was together Amanda Booth presented Captain Backer with and Applebee’s Veterans Day shirts and thanked him for his service on behalf of everyone at Applebee’s and Doherty. What a great story! A huge thank you to Amanda Booth and the Applebee’s team for making this happen! 6 Want to be seen and heard?
