Europe bordered by the Mediterranean Sea whose capital
is Athens

mountains and hills, surrounded by many islands and
the Mediterranean Sea; had limited rich soil)
3. specialization - being an expert in one job, product,
or service
(The Ancient Greeks specialized in building ships,
fishing, farming, and making pottery.)
4. human characteristi cs - special type of people that
live in a certain area
(The Ancient Greeks were farmers, shipbuilders, and
traders)
5. adaptation - a way people changed to fit into their
environment
(Ancient Greeks farmed on hillsides, traded on the
Mediterranean Sea, and developed small independent
communities because of the many mountains.
6. contribution - the act of giving or doing something
for others
(Greek contributions = direct democracy, columns,
Olympics)
7. architecture - a particular style or method of
designing or constructing buildings
8. direct democracy - a government in which people
vote directly to make their own rules and laws
(Ancient Greece is the birthplace of democracy)
9. Parthenon - the ancient Greek temple of Athena on
the Acropolis in Athens
10. columns - long upright pillars that support
buildings and structures; 3 types are doric, corinthian,
and ionic
