Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for the joint position of Wholesale Market Systems Technical Lead within a key multi-year programme. This is an excellent opportunity within the Gas Networks Ireland IT team at a time of significant and exciting change within the organisation. The Role The IT team within Gas Networks Ireland is an embedded and integral part of the business providing operational, strategic and customer focused IT services, which include Architecture & Service, PMO, Business Applications, and Technical Operations capability. The Wholesale Market Systems Technical Lead role will report to the Business Applications Manager, and will assume a workstream lead role on major programmes of change in planning and delivering the technical activities of GNI Wholesale Market systems. The role will also ensure system integration with key external systems (e.g. adjacent Gas Transportation System Operators) are understood, planned for, and ultimately delivered in line with timelines of strategic initiatives for GNI. The role requires a strong technical aptitude, as well as a proven background of integrating on-premise systems with externally hosted enterprise class systems. Candidates will ideally have strong vendor management capabilities and experience of dealing with IT counterparts in external organisations. The ability to forge strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be a success factor in the role. Main duties and responsibilities: Build technical plans for major programmes of change on GNI Wholesale Market Systems Lead the delivery of the technical plans and co-ordinate both GNI IT and vendor resources Analyse and design for robust operations of integrated Wholesale Market Systems across GNI and connected external systems Manage day to day technical issues on projects as they arise and act as an escalation point within the team, taking ownership through to resolution Actively represent GNI IT in technical governance groups regarding wholesale market systems Identify impacts to GNI systems driven by changes in interconnected external systems Manage impacts to GNI specific systems driven from changes in upstream/downstream systems such as regular upgrades and enhancement cycles Plan and coordinate DR activities opposite interconnected system owners Position the GNI technical agenda with internal and external stakeholders on issues directly or indirectly impacting on GNI IT preferences and solutions Remain current on industry technical trends that impact on GNI wholesale market systems (e.g. standard gas market messaging XML Protocols/Standards) Provide out-of-hours cover as part of the Standby rota if required and other duties as required from time to time Qualifications and Experience: Relevant third level degree or at least 5+ years’ experience in a comparable IT role with proven technical competence essential A demonstrable ability to define pragmatic solution designs, and ultimately influence upstream/downstream systems to work effectively with GNI systems Working knowledge of some of the GNI IT landscape would be desirable (e.g. Oracle Fusion Middleware, SOAP Messaging, Oracle OEBS, Datawarehousing etc) Previous experience with initiating and maintaining strategic relationships both internally and externally, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals Provide coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with the ability to generate innovative technical solutions as required A good understanding of business operations and the commercial viability and impact of technical / professional decisions on the performance of the organisation Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment and delivering desired results Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others.
